The primary function of painting is to infect people's beauty, whether it is concrete or abstract, classical or modern, exquisite or rough, it should refine beauty, express beauty and become the carrier of natural beauty and humanistic beauty.

I have been engaged in watercolor painting creation, research and teaching all my life, and I also studied Chinese painting in the early days. Although both of them are western paintings and quintessence of Chinese culture, in my opinion, there are similarities in expression techniques. Both of them use water as the medium, and the requirements of using pen, color and water control are quite consistent. What is different is that ink painting achieves the effect of blending ink and color, depth and realism through the water absorption and infiltration process of rice paper itself. Watercolor, on the other hand, uses different proportions of pigments and water to express the contrast between light and shade, transparency and moist feeling of the picture on impervious drawing paper. So I often use watercolor and Chinese painting techniques in my paintings, which is also unique.

If you love life and nature, you can find beauty in ordinary and real scenery and have a strong desire to express life and reflect truth, goodness and beauty. The painting style of realistic painting school is to find beauty in reflecting reality and express beauty. Such as: the rhythmic beauty of urban architecture; Classical beauty of pavilions and gardens; The construction site is open and spectacular; Natural intelligence; Return to the original country flavor; The vitality of flowers and plants.

You should devote yourself to painting. No emotion, no scenery. It is necessary to reflect feelings in the scene and paint in the situation of harmony between man and nature, so that the works can get rid of the camera-like rigidity and achieve both form and spirit, and the scene blends.

Painting should be observed, absorbed and created with heart. I think most of the flowers I painted were planted by myself. From germination, flowering to defoliation, the different patterns in the morning and evening and the corolla structure of branches and leaves are clearly observed. Knowing why, when painting, combination and choice are well known.

Learning painting from a teacher can concentrate on absorbing the teacher's painting style. However, there is no end to learning, and the sea of art is boundless. We should be good at absorbing the strengths of each family and be unique, so that shine on you can be better than Blue. Promote the development of art.

Sketching in the wild is very hard. My last year sketching abroad was 1985, and I went to Putuo Mountain and Yandang Mountain. I am 88 years old. In order to find a good scenic spot, I don't hesitate to climb mountains and mountains with crutches. Find a suitable scenic spot, regardless of mosquito bites, sun and rain. Without the accumulation of life, all creation will become a rootless tree, a source without water, and there will be no vitality.
