Why did so many outstanding thinkers in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period end up with Confucius and Mencius?
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, a hundred schools of thought contended. Confucianism, Mohism, Taoism, Legalism, Military Strategists, Strategists, Peasants and Miscellaneous Scholars all have their own theories. However, later generations' exclusive respect for Confucianism made Confucius' way more famous. However, Confucius was not a unique contact philanthropist at that time.

In fact, before the Han dynasty, all theories occupied a certain position, and there was no distinction between high and low. There is no special recognition of a certain theory above the imperial court, but the number of Confucian scholars is the largest. Although Confucius has 3,000 disciples, it is only an imaginary number, but it is obvious that Confucius is very enthusiastic about education, and his theory is widely circulated.

During the Qin Dynasty, Legalism reached its peak, and Han Feizi's name was far better than that of Confucius. However, the legalists at that time were too strict and did things that benefited others too much. Therefore, since the Qin Dynasty, Legalists have been criticized by later generations and gradually ceased to be prominent scholars.

Taoism pays attention to inaction and does not participate in political struggles, so its reputation in the court is not obvious, but it is also highly respected by the rulers because of its good health preservation. Although Mohism is good at the way of organs, it is forbidden for rulers to guard samurai and chivalrous men to use force. Therefore, since the Qin Dynasty, Mohism has little space in the Central Plains. Other schools gradually turned to practical learning, rarely participated in the political struggle of the imperial court, and were also suppressed by Confucianism, so the representatives of various schools are not very famous now.

Many people think that Dong Zhongshu started by ousting a hundred schools of thought and worshiping Confucianism alone. In fact, Dong Zhongshu only respected Confucianism on the surface. He wants to use Confucian theory to achieve his political goals, but he is actually a legalist, and he will not do anything that only respects Confucianism.

So the real move to the altar began with Wang Mang usurping the Han Dynasty. In order to win over the literati class, Wang Mang paid more attention to the Confucian scholars at that time in order to have more assistance in the court. At that time, several characters in the descendants of Confucius were very eager for power, and the two hit it off, which promoted the process of Confucius' going to the altar.

After the fall of Wang Mang, these Confucian scholars were not punished, but their status soared because of their previous admiration and gradually mastered more political capital. With the right to speak, Confucian scholars put more emphasis on popularizing Confucianism nationwide, shaping Confucius into a perfect saint and Mencius into a sub-saint. After thousands of years of evolution, the position of Confucius and Mencius has been very consolidated, and representatives of other schools have long been unable to compete with it.

Although Confucianism spread in later generations has a great connection with Confucius, it has been improved in many aspects and is more suitable for the rulers at that time. Confucianism has become a prominent school in contemporary times, but many traditional concepts of Confucianism have been abandoned, which is also an inevitable process of the development of Confucianism. All theories should be adapted to the society at that time, and we should not stick to the ancients. However, it must be said that there are indeed many dross in Confucianism in later generations, and blindly obeying the wishes of British rulers has long lost ideological progress.
