Is berberine actually the nemesis of "three highs"? Luo Dalun
My parents met many new friends in Hainan, especially those who danced square dance with my mother at the seaside in the evening, so they often exchanged health care experiences together.

One day last year, my mother and a friend of her husband came to visit us. During the visit, her husband asked me a question, saying that it was for consultation.

This gentleman used to be an entrepreneur. When he and his wife were 50 years old, they gave up everything and came to Hainan for health. However, because they have been in business all those years, they also have some health problems, such as hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia and hypertension. He claimed that he had taken many drugs, and the effect was not good.

As a result, I didn't know where I heard that eating berberine could treat these problems, so I began to take it seriously.

Results After two months, all the indicators were normal!

I stopped using it later. This time he specifically asked me why. Can you keep taking it?

Because he came prepared, he took out a list of various tests before and after taking the medicine, so that I could see the changes of his indexes. After stopping taking the medicine, he tested several times, all of which were normal. I looked at it carefully, and it was very detailed and the contrast was obvious.

So I asked him, how is the stool during taking it? His answer has always been normal. I asked him again how he understood this method. He said it was spread among the elderly. Later, he went to a big hospital in Beijing and asked the doctor if he could eat. The Chinese doctor replied, "How do you know this method? This is a good way to eat. " So he insisted on taking it. The administration method is three tablets (0.3g) each time, three times a day.

This surprised me. The research results in this field have been widely used by ordinary people themselves, which I didn't expect.

What the hell is going on here? Is it reliable?

Below, I will simply write the research results of researchers over the years to everyone.

Berberine, also known as berberine hydrochloride, is an effective component extracted from coptis chinensis, phellodendron amurense or sanzhen, which has obvious antibacterial effect. Among them, it has the strongest effect on Shigella dysenteriae and is often used to treat gastrointestinal diseases such as bacterial gastroenteritis and dysentery.

However, with the deepening of research, medical staff found that berberine has obvious anti-heart failure, anti-arrhythmia and cholesterol-lowering effects in addition to infectious diarrhea.

Researchers and clinicians work together to systematically study the pharmacological action, curative effect and molecular mechanism of berberine in reducing blood cholesterol and triglyceride from gene sequence, cell, animal experiment and clinical treatment. The research results were published in the international authoritative magazine NatureMedicine, which was highly praised. Some people even concluded that the study of berberine hydrochloride may be another project that can win the bid in the international medical community after artemisinin.

Clinical research shows that oral berberine (daily 1g for three months) can reduce cholesterol, low density lipoprotein and triglyceride of hyperlipidemia patients by 20% ~ 35%, which is further confirmed by the animal experiment of hyperlipidemia golden hamster model. After the publication of this research result, it has been confirmed by many research units and hospitals in Europe and America, making berberine a promising hypolipidemic drug.

The editor of Nature magazine said: Berberine from China is an ideal supplement for statins. Berberine is dozens of times cheaper than statins. Therefore, the discovery of berberine's hypolipidemic effect is of great value for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

At the same time, the research shows that berberine hydrochloride also has the effect of lowering blood pressure, because berberine can directly act on vascular smooth muscle and relax blood vessels.

Studies have also shown that berberine can also reduce blood sugar and urine sugar. Diabetic patients can take 0.4 g orally, four times a day. After taking 1-3 months, blood sugar can drop to normal level.

Arrhythmias in middle-aged and elderly people are mostly related to organic heart diseases, such as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease and myocarditis. Oral berberine, 0.4g each time, 4 times a day for 7- 12 days, can relieve or eliminate discomfort symptoms such as palpitation, shortness of breath and chest tightness, and can relieve or correct arrhythmia. Scientific research results show that berberine can increase coronary blood flow and improve myocardial function, thus reducing the incidence of arrhythmia caused by coronary artery infarction.

Berberine also has a good effect on frequent atrial and ventricular premature beats, especially on ventricular premature beats.

Berberine, like aspirin, can inhibit platelet aggregation and has a wider range of effects, so it is a more effective drug than aspirin. Berberine can be used in the treatment of transient ischemic attack, which is easily accepted by patients because of its wide drug sources and small side effects. Specific usage: 0.9 g per day, taken orally three times, with 30 days of continuous treatment as a course of treatment, which can be used for 2-3 courses.

The above contents are extracted from various scientific research summaries. In fact, the researchers' research results are more specific, more detailed and more content. We have made a lot of achievements in this field, but our ordinary non-scientific researchers are not clear about it.

So, here's the problem. Since berberine is so effective, can we take it?

I want to answer a few questions first:

Berberine 1 is not compound Berberine.

We are talking about simple berberine, and the main name on the medicine bottle is berberine hydrochloride. Compound berberine, added with other traditional Chinese medicines such as radix aucklandiae, is a compound for treating diarrhea, not the medicine we are talking about. Remind everyone to pay attention.

Is this berberine (berberine hydrochloride) still a traditional Chinese medicine?

This is a difficult question to answer. It is purified from traditional Chinese medicine such as Coptis chinensis, but its composition is very different from Coptis chinensis. There are many ingredients in coptis chinensis, and berberine is just one of them. Strictly speaking, it is a chemical preparation purified from traditional Chinese medicine, just like artemisinin.

So can berberine be applied according to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine?

This is the most urgent problem to be solved. If berberine is regarded as a simple chemical preparation, it does not need to be used according to the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine. It seems that people with three high problems can use it. Is this reasonable?

In fact, the chemical composition of coptis chinensis Franch is complicated, including berberine (about 7-9%), coptisine, methylcoptisine, tetrandrine, tetrandrine and other alkaloids, as well as phellodendron amurense and phellodendron lactone. But the main component is berberine, so my opinion is that since Rhizoma Coptidis is a bitter cold medicine in Chinese medicine theory, it has the function of clearing away heat and purging fire, so berberine, as the main component of Rhizoma Coptidis, should also have the attributes of Rhizoma Coptidis more or less, and should learn from the contents of Chinese medicine theory.

Therefore, I suggest that people with yang deficiency use this medicine with caution, which is a relatively safe practice.

Since there are scientific research results here, does Dr. Luo recommend this medicine?

I don't think this method is recommended for the elderly and infirm. Because although the scientific research results are so, it has not been widely used in clinic, so we should be cautious about the elderly.

For those who are in good health, I think you can try anything except those with yang deficiency. Because, after all, it has been done clinically at home and abroad, and the effect is positive, but the three high energies cannot be completely controlled. I think it still varies from person to person, but the effect is definitely there. And in my observation, it is very important to use it in sufficient amount, usually 0.9 grams per day. If it is lower than this amount, the effect is not ideal.

I am writing this article today, not to recommend the use of Berberine, but to introduce an idea, which has many research foundations, and I have personally seen patients taking Berberine with outstanding effects. However, this method is not entirely in the field of traditional Chinese medicine, and it has a certain frontier, so I just introduce it today, hoping that this method will get more verification support in the future and become a new star to protect human health.
