For the specific methods of fixation, many health exercises are recorded. Tao Zhongshu's Wonderful Chapter says: "What is perseverance? I pinch the words of his three fingers with my left and right thumbs, or I have been pinching his thumb with four fingers, and my left and right hands are between my waist and abdomen. "
"Hold" refers to pinching the thumb of the left and right hand on the horizontal line of the other three fingers, or putting it on the palm of your hand, holding it tightly with the other four fingers, and then pressing the left and right hands on the waist, abdomen or back.
"Twelve Steps Exercise" edited by Shou records: "Bend your hands, two fingers touch the root of your index finger, and the other four fingers twist your big fingers firmly."
"On the Cause of Disease" says: "Hold your thumb with four fingers in each hand."
Su Shen Liang Fang thought: "Hold the second finger with your thumb, or hold your thumb with four fingers."
"Jiao Tong's Collection of Doors" records: "Pinch the middle of the middle finger with your thumb, and put all four fingers in your palm."
These statements are similar. They all have their thumbs between their fingers. The difference lies in which finger root the thumb tip is located. Some think it's an index finger, some think it's a middle finger, and there are ring fingers and little fingers.
The grip method advocated in the four sets of health qigong: the thumb is buckled in the palm of your hand, the fingertip is at the root of the ring finger (fourth finger), then the other four fingers are bent, and the thumb is firmly held with a little force, just like holding a baby. Why the root of the ring finger? The ancients thought it was a place where the liver and soul closed their orifices, and the theory of traditional Chinese medicine also put forward that "the liver controls the grip"
We see that newborn children are particularly rich in liver meridian qi, and children often instinctively clench their fists to "settle their souls" for self-protection. The end of a person's life means "losing all his liver and soul and letting it go".
