Among the Taoist schools circulating in the Southern Song Dynasty, there are also so-called followers of Jin Dannan, who inherited Zhang Boduan's theory of inner alchemy in the Northern Song Dynasty, despised Fu Yong and regarded outer alchemy as witchcraft. Because it is founded by Zhang Boduan, it can be called Ziyang School. Judging from its purpose of specializing in Neidan, it is similar to Quanzhen religion in the north, so people compare it with Quanzhen religion founded by Wang Zhongyang, saying that Wang Zhongyang School is the North School and Ziyang School is the South School. This division of North and South sects is related to Inner alchemy in Song and Yuan Dynasties. Lian's Preface to Send Xu Xuedao to the South of Fujian says: Since the Song and Jin Dynasties, the speaker has been enthusiastic, and there are two factions in the north and the south: the south faction is Tiantai-Cheng, and the north faction is Xianyang. Also, because it is considered that religion is not as good as what Wei Boyang said at that time, Jue's Wild Moon View also said:' There are two ways to preserve one's health: the northern ancestor is southeast Wei Boyang.'

Nanzong was founded later than Beizong, and its actual founder should be Bai Yuchan in Ningzong period of Southern Song Dynasty. However, in order to compete with the Northern Sect, his disciples Chen Shoumo and Zhan Jirui put forward a set of teaching departments according to some legends in the Preface to the Biography of Hai Qiong: Qian () spread to Haichan, Liu Chuanzhi spread to Zhang Pingshu (), Zhang Chuanzhi spread to Shitai, Shi Chuanzhi spread to Daoguang monk (Xue style) and Daoguang spread to Chenniwan (Xue style).
