What methods does Taoism have to promote physical and mental health?
Taoism attaches importance to life and actively explores how to make people live longer and see farther. In order to promote the health and longevity of life, Taoism has explored various health preservation methods. Three principles of Taoist health preservation: natural health preservation principle, quiet health preservation principle and moral health preservation principle. The so-called natural health care means conforming to one's own nature and not strengthening behavior. For example, if you are sleepy, you should go to bed, which is natural; However, if you obviously feel sleepy, but still insist on staying up late, continue to work overtime or have fun, this is unnatural. Eating hungry and drinking thirsty are the essence of life. Food must be refined, and drinking must seek beauty. This is not the essence of life. Laozi advocates "serving the stomach, not for the purpose", that is, I hope that people can meet the natural needs of maintaining life and health, rather than excessively pursuing sensory enjoyment. Otherwise, "five colors blind, five tones deaf, five flavors refreshing, wild hunting crazy", "the thickness of survival" will hurt your life. So, does it mean that doing nothing all day is in line with the natural way of keeping in good health? Not exactly. Being too comfortable is not keeping in good health. Zhuangzi said, "My husband gave me many shapes, which made me alive, made me old and made me die" (Master Zhuangzi). That is to say, since heaven and earth have given me shape, it is natural to make my old age comfortable and rest quietly with death at the expense of my life's labor. It is unnatural not to work hard when you should work hard and not to rest when you should rest. Therefore, the combination of work and rest is the most natural. The so-called quiet health is to be "indifferent and quiet, abstinence and calmness". All Taoist martial arts are based on inner peace, and all martial arts are only aimed at pursuing that calm and peaceful mentality. Only by reaching the realm of eternal silence can we truly step into the good realm of health preservation. It is important to be indifferent to fame and fortune. Laozi pointed out: "Who is the counterpart of name and body? Who has more body and goods? " People who are too greedy for fame and fortune are bound to work hard and pay a heavy physical and mental price. Laozi advocates "simplicity, less selfishness and less greed", and points out that "content is not humiliating, content is not dangerous, and it can last for a long time". He advised those who covet fame and fortune, "You can't keep happiness from now on;" Being rich and arrogant is self-inflicted; It is heaven to retire after success. " The health of life depends on one's mood first. Silence can make people's minds safe, calm and empty. If a person can be calm and not disturbed by external factors, no matter what the living environment is, he will not worry about suffering. The Book of Songs says that "truth should always respond to things", and "constant silence" can reach the realm of "constant silence". Lv Dongbin also said: "It is really necessary to react to things, to react to things without being fascinated." As we all know, it is relatively easy to keep your mind quiet when there is nothing to do, but it is too difficult to keep your mind quiet all the time in daily work. Taoist practice is "always quiet", and it is necessary to be quiet at the last moment. Like a mirror, things shine when they come, but there is no shadow in the mirror when they go. And to do this, we must have a dominant mind, not for things. Regardless of prosperity and adversity, regardless of wealth and poverty, I will never give up my life goals and always pursue a lofty spiritual realm. "Don't rejoice in things, don't grieve for yourself" can make people calm and comfortable. In the process of dealing with complex things, we should follow the principle of "removing wisdom from the past, and following the principles of justice" in Zhuangzi, that is, we should let nature take its course and not be smart and selfish. In this way, we can not be swayed by considerations of gain and loss, and we can maintain a peaceful attitude.
