meaning of a word
Wowotou is made of corn flour or mixed flour. The big one is half a catty, and the small one is two or three. Wowotou is conical in shape, with a small top and a large bottom and a hollow center. In order to facilitate steaming, there is a hole at the bottom (called Wowoer in Beijing), and because it is the same staple food as steamed bread, Beijingers call this food Wowotou. In the past, when describing a person's tragic fate, he often said, "He has been hungry and tired all his life, eating steamed buns." Two-part allegorical saying "Wowotou turns over-revealing big eyes" means that when Wowotou turns over, a big round eye (that is, a round hole) appears in the sky, which is used to describe being conspicuous, but ugly, often with contempt and irony.
Cixi said
Farmers have used this name for a long time, and they use corn flour to make this food. There are no coincidences in the world. Wowotou has other stories. There is a restaurant in Beihai Park called "Imitation Meal", which imitates the practice of imperial kitchen. Among their famous foods, there is a kind of "Wowotou", which is said to be related to Cixi. According to legend, at the end of the Qing Dynasty, shortly before Eight-Nation Alliance entered Beijing, Cixi and others fled west in panic and hurried for several days, eating all the cakes they brought. When she arrived in Xi 'an, Cixi was so hungry that she ordered to stop the car and let her people look for food. The attendants thought, she is used to eating delicacies and soft cakes, where can she find them now? So the men just mumbled their answers and couldn't start. When Cixi saw this, she flew into a rage: "Why don't you slaves find food? You want to starve me! " An eunuch said, "Lafayette, calm down. It's not that I won't look for it, but where can I find this place? " Just then, Cixi saw someone fleeing not far away, sitting and eating. She pointed and said, "Go and have a look." The eunuch ran to have a look, and the refugees ate the cool steamed corn bread. The eunuch reported that they ate coarse grains. Cixi had never heard of Wowotou and was very surprised. She got off to visit. She saw that it was a kind of food from Huang Chengcheng, and those people were enjoying it. She stepped forward and asked, "Is this delicious?" An old man replied that it was delicious. Empress dowager cixi's stomach is empty and she can't help drooling. She wanted to have a taste, so she said, "Can you give me a taste?" The old man readily handed one. Cixi took it and took a bite. It was delicious. She ate it. Ah! It smells good! After a while, a big wowotou was eaten by her.
Later, when she returned to Beijing Palace, whenever she was tired of eating a full table of royal meals, she thought of what she had eaten when she fled-Wowotou, which was really memorable. So I ordered the chef to make a nest to eat. Wowotou brought it, and it was also Huang Chengcheng. She tasted it and smacked, but it didn't taste like this. In a rage, she killed several kitchen workers. The royal chef is hard to break. No cook is afraid of death, and no one dares to make a nest for her. Let's find a way together. Or an old cook came up with an idea: "Let's make a steamed bun with chestnut powder and sugar to see if she likes it?" So, everyone began to make chestnut noodle steamed buns, and Cixi tasted it, which was quite delicious. She said happily, "I finally got steamed buns when I ran away." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when the news came back to the chef. Since then, there has been a small wowotou on the dim sum spectrum of the imperial kitchen. In fact, this kind of wowotou only adds more ingredients than it is now. It is said that there are corn flour, chestnut powder, soybean powder, sugar and other materials in it, so the taste is very unique. Therefore, in addition to the real Wowotou, there are two kinds of Wowotou and Xiaowwotou in Beijing, leaving a little trace of history. "Wowotou" is a tiny thing, but it has such an interesting history unexpectedly, which shows that if we study some foods carefully, there must be many things that can be discovered.
There is also a kind of Wowotou eaten in the detention center, which is authentic Wowotou. Although the shape is very long and looks like a cake, the ingredients made are absolutely authentic. It is authentic Wowotou, steamed with corn flour, broken corn leaves and corn cobs. In the old society, all wowotou did this.
