Rhinitis in the eyes of western medicine
Rhinitis is a common disease and difficult to treat. Can occur in men, women and children, without seasonality and locality. The symptoms are more obvious after a cold gets wet. Western medicine divides rhinitis into acute and chronic, and chronic rhinitis is divided into simple, hypertrophic, atrophic and allergic. In addition, there are acute and chronic sinusitis. The treatment is generally based on symptomatic treatment, or dredging nasal orifices, or anti-inflammatory sterilization, or even surgical resection.
Acute rhinitis is an acute inflammatory disease of nasal mucosa caused by virus infection, also known as "cold" and "wind chill". Symptoms include stuffy nose, runny nose and fever. It is easy to get sick all year round, especially in winter.
Chronic rhinitis: chronic inflammation of nasal mucosa and submucosa. Its main characteristics are that the inflammation lasts for more than three months or recurs, and it can't be cured in the intermittent period, and there is no clear pathogenic microorganism, accompanied by different degrees of obstruction such as nasal congestion, increased secretion, nasal mucosal swelling or thickening. Symptoms are nasal congestion, translucent mucus and runny nose after secondary infection.
Allergic rhinitis: It is caused by the nasal mucosa being highly sensitive to some components in the inhaled air. This is very similar to a cold. You can attack many times a day, and it is completely normal not to attack. Sometimes the attack is closely related to the season. Symptoms are plenty of water, stuffy nose, orbital allergy, itchy nose and paroxysmal sneezing.
Sinusitis: inflammation of one or more sinuses. There are generally acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Symptoms are persistent and severe upper respiratory tract infection, mostly nasal congestion and purulent secretions, often accompanied by fullness, oppression and olfactory changes in the head and face.
Nasal smothering in TCM syndrome differentiation
There is no such thing as rhinitis in Chinese medicine, which is generally called sniffling, sneezing or stuffy nose. Snuff is clear, sneezing is a chronic nasal disease, which is characterized by itchy nose, light nasal congestion, heavy nasal congestion, or alternating blockage of bilateral nasal orifices, repeated attacks, persistent unhealing, and even olfactory failure. Traditional Chinese medicine clearly diagnosed this disease as early as two thousand years ago, and put forward effective treatment ideas and methods for the same disease and different diseases. Its therapeutic concept is similar to that of western medicine. In terms of methods, it is mainly through massage to stimulate the corresponding acupoints for prevention and treatment.
