As the saying goes, there is demand and there is market.

As we all know, the price of vegetables will go up, the price of meat will go up, and the price of earthworm has gone up several times because of its medicinal value.

Recently, it has been revealed that the price of monkeys has also risen sharply.

The price of monkeys has risen not because there are more monkeys, but because major pharmaceutical companies are buying monkeys for experiments.

For example, on June 6th, Zhao Yanxin Medicine announced that Mao Ying Bio has become its wholly-owned subsidiary, and 20,000 experimental monkeys also belong to Zhao Yanxin Medicine.

This is just an example. Many pharmaceutical companies are hoarding monkeys, so the price of monkeys is rising.

With the rapid development of the pharmaceutical industry, the demand for experimental monkeys has greatly increased. Take the most commonly used crab-eating monkey as an example. In 20 14 year, its unit price was around 7000 yuan, in 20 18 year, it rose to 14 thousand yuan, and in 20 19 year, it soared to 30 thousand yuan, this March.

Not only that, some data show that at present, the stock of experimental monkeys in China is only about 30,000, which means that 30,000 monkeys are far from enough compared with the huge pharmaceutical industry, so the market may face the situation that "monkeys are valuable".

Why do monkeys suddenly become so "rare"?

We often say that mice do use mice as experimental objects in many experiments, but compared with mice and rabbits, monkeys are the closest to humans, so they are also the most ideal experimental animals, and the data obtained are relatively closer to human medication.

Therefore, monkeys have become experimental subjects, especially for diseases that are very harmful, monkeys are often selected as experimental subjects.

However, not all monkeys can become experimental subjects, and monkeys used in experiments also have strict requirements, such as age, weight and physical condition. For example, taking the most commonly used cynomolgus monkeys as an example, it takes about four years from feeding to slaughter to reach the experimental standard, and there is a special feeding environment, which makes the production of experimental monkeys more difficult.

In addition, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic in recent two years, the demand for experimental monkeys has surged, so the market is in short supply.

Moreover, a monkey can only be used for the study of a disease, and it can't be reused, and the experiment will not be only once, so there is a great demand for monkeys.

In the past, domestic experimental monkeys were not so tight, and even tens of thousands were exported every year. However, with the rapid growth of domestic demand, in 2020, due to the demand of epidemic prevention, China suspended the import and export business of wild animals, making experimental monkeys turn to the domestic market.

However, with the surge in demand, there has been an imbalance between supply and demand, which has led to a sharp rise in monkey prices.

No one expected that one day the value of monkeys could be so amazing.
