Huangyan Island (formerly known as Democracy Reef) is internationally known as Scarborough Shoal. It is the only island reef in zhongsha islands, China, located at 15 07' north latitude and 16 5438+07 5 1' east longitude, about 160 nautical miles from Zhongsha Atoll. The territorial sovereignty of Huangyan Island belongs to People's Republic of China (PRC), and its administrative jurisdiction belongs to zhongsha islands Office in the southwest of Hainan Province, China.
