Shihezi University is located in Shihezi City, which is known as the Gobi Pearl at the northern foot of Tianshan Mountain in Xinjiang. 1April, 1996, Shihezi Agricultural College, Shihezi Medical College, Corps Normal College and Corps Economic College under the Ministry of Agriculture were merged. It is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university and a national western key construction university, which is now jointly established by the Ministry of Education and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The Ministry of Education designated Peking University and East China University of Science and Technology to support Shihezi University, Zhejiang University, Tianjin University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Northwest A&F University, Jiangnan University, and Sichuan Agricultural University to implement the counterpart aid discipline construction plan.

Shihezi University has a history of 60 years. The earliest predecessor of the former Shihezi Medical College was born in the March of China People's Liberation Army to liberate Xinjiang in September 1949. In the long-term course of running a school, the school has always shared the same fate with the motherland, and the CPC Central Committee and the State Council attached great importance to and cared about the development of the school. Premier Zhou Enlai, Vice Premier Chen Yi, Vice Premier He Long and Vice President Wang Zhen visited the school in person. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China [2004] 1 1 proposed to increase support for Shihezi University. At the end of 2008, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and State Councilor, on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, sent a letter of condolence to the teachers, students and staff of our school, and made it clear that Shihezi University had entered the ranks of national "2 1 1 Engineering" key universities. ...
