What is the cause of constipation from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine?
The causes of constipation are as follows:

(1) Due to bad eating habits, insufficient mechanical or chemical stimulation to food, or too little and too fine food, especially food with a large amount of sediment, the intestinal stimulation is reduced, and reflex peristalsis is weakened, leading to constipation.

(2) Changes in living habits, improper defecation posture, frequent use of laxatives and enema can all reduce the sensitivity of rectal reflex, so that although feces enter, it is not enough to cause effective nerve impulses, thus failing to produce defecation reflex and causing constipation.

(3) Mental depression or excessive excitement leads to disorder of conditioned reflex and constipation.

(4) Bad living habits, lack of sleep, persistent high mental stress, etc. It can also cause abnormal peristalsis and spasmodic contraction of the colon, causing constipation.

(5) Intestinal diseases such as intestinal polyps and intestinal cancer cannot pass through the intestine.

Constipation must first find out the cause and actively treat it according to the cause.
