The founder of Tong Ren Tang is Le Xianyang. Le Xianyang, nicknamed Zunyu, was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, and moved to Beijing during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. Three generations of ancestors practiced medicine. He has been exposed to everything since he was a child. He widely read ancient books and devoted himself to the research and production of prescription drugs. The pills he made are all made of pure and authentic materials, and the production is precise and rigorous, and the curative effect is remarkable after the patient uses them.
He regards practicing medicine and selling medicine as the highest pursuit of preserving health and serving the society. He said: "medicine is the most important thing for those who can keep healthy and save the world." Le Xianyang founded Tong Ren Tang Pharmacy in the eighth year of Qing Emperor Kangxi (1669).
More than 400 kinds of Chinese patent medicines in Tongrentang, most of which have been tested many times, have reasonable formula, appropriate dosage and high curative effect. In the late Qing Dynasty, there were four major drug stores in Beijing: Tianhui, Tiancheng, Longsheng and HSBC. These four major pharmacies all have transactions with Tong Ren Tang, and they all use goods first and then pay.
