On August 5, Mercedes-Benz and Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. announced that they will further strengthen their cooperation in the field of battery technology, and Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. will become the head power battery supplier of Mercedes-Benz to support Mercedes-Benz to accelerate its electrification transformation.
As one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world, Mercedes-Benz has been accelerating the electrification transformation in recent years. Since the beginning of this year, Mercedes-Benz has been intensively deployed in the field of power batteries.
In July this year, Mercedes-Benz further deepened its strategic cooperation with Funeng Technology, a power battery enterprise in China. Mercedes-Benz announced its shareholding in Funeng Technology with a shareholding ratio of 3%. Tang Shikai, a member of Daimler's board of directors and in charge of the Greater China business, once said: "Through the first shareholding in China's power battery monomer manufacturer, we will further tap the cooperation potential with China's high-tech partners to support our global electrification strategy."
However, the main product of Funeng Technology is ternary flexible battery, which is not the mainstream product at present. According to the data, in 20 19, the installed capacity of ternary flexible battery in China new energy vehicle market was only 8.8%, and the market share of square hard-shell battery was as high as 84.5%. Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. was the main manufacturer of square hard-shell battery.
In 20 19, with the good market performance of ternary lithium battery, Contemporary Amp Technology Co., Ltd. won the dominant position in the global power battery field with 28% market share. Therefore, Mercedes-Benz chose Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. as the head supplier after investing in Funeng Technology, and it is still optimistic about the leading position of Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. in the field of power batteries.
"The cooperation with Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. will help us accelerate the transition to carbon neutrality. Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. will become the head supplier of Mercedes-Benz to ensure the battery supply of the next generation EQ products in the next few years. " Marcus Schaefer, a member of Daimler's board of directors and chief operating officer of Mercedes-Benz, views the cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. in this way.
Mercedes-Benz disclosed in yesterday's announcement that the Mercedes-Benz EQS pure electric vehicle equipped with the battery module of Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd. will be listed on 202 1. Under the WLTP standard, its cruising range will exceed 700? Kilometers. From the point of cruising range, the cruising range of EQS is much higher than that of EQC. As the first pure electric vehicle of Mercedes-Benz, EQC, which was launched in October 201916543810, has a cruising range of only 4 15km. In contrast, during the same period, the cruising range of domestic mainstream pure electric vehicles was basically more than 500 kilometers. Therefore, the sales volume of EQC after listing is far lower than Mercedes-Benz's previous expectations.
It should be pointed out that the cruising range of EQS is not greatly improved by using the battery of Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd., because EQC is also made of the battery of Contemporary Ampere Technology Co., Ltd., and the main reason for the substantial improvement of cruising range may come from the change of automobile architecture.
In fact, EQC is based on GLC, so it can be classified as "oil to electricity" mode. The structure of traditional fuel vehicles makes EQC stretched to the limit when laying out power batteries. EQS is built by Mercedes-Benz's first pure electric platform, and its cruising range has been greatly improved. Some analysts pointed out that although the cruising range has been greatly improved, this does not mean that Mercedes-Benz can successfully complete the electrification transformation. Take Volkswagen as an example, the delivery of ID series models built by its first pure electric MEB platform has been repeatedly delayed due to software problems. It can be seen that the electrification transformation of traditional car companies is far more complicated than expected.
