How tall is Niu Bao?
Newborn calves are 1- 1.2 meters tall and weigh about 60 kilograms. The lactation period of Luxi yellow cattle is usually 6 months, and the calf period refers to calves born before 6 months. Let's take a look at the characteristics and management measures of the calf period.

1. Timely supplementary feeding in calf period.

The nutritional supply of calves after birth depends entirely on breast milk. After 3-4 days, they start ruminating until a small amount of concentrate can be used. Breast milk is the main source of nutrition. Generally speaking, breast milk can basically meet the growth and development needs of calves after birth 1 month, but only breast milk can not meet the growth and development needs after 30 days, so supplementary feeding must be carried out.

When calves reach the age of 30 days, soybean meal, bran and a small amount of salt can be mixed together, and each calf can be fed150-200g every day, and fed twice.

With the increase of calf feed intake, it is necessary to ensure adequate drinking water. When calves reach the age of 60 days, the rumen volume gradually increases, the function begins to improve, and roughage can be digested and utilized. At this time, concentrate and silage can be mixed, the ratio of silage to concentrate is 3: 1, and the total amount of mixture is 1- 1.5 kg, and they are fed twice a day. Concentrate can also be mixed with more raw materials. The general formula of concentrate is: corn 50%, bean cake 30%, bran 12%, fish meal 5%, calcium carbonate 1%, salt 1% and bone meal 1%.

When calves are 90 days old, that is, 3 months old, they can be fed a mixture of silage and concentrate every day, with a total amount of 1.5-2 kg; Feed 3-4 kg every day after 4 months of age; Feed 5-6 kg every day after 5 months. If we don't supplement the feeding quickly, with the increase of age, the nutrients needed for the growth and development of calves will be lacking, which will hinder the growth and development of calves, which is also the main reason for the low weaning weight of calves at the age of 6 months. The weight of 6-month-old calves without supplementary feeding is generally 100- 120 kg, while the weight of calves after supplementary feeding can reach 160- 180 kg.
