What is true health: finding the answer in Buddhism
What is health? Generally speaking, being strong is health, and being safe and disease-free is health. Generally speaking, being strong, safe and disease-free is health. Health is so important to life that it is absolutely indispensable. Lack of health, not only can't finish school, can't build a career, and can't enjoy life. A Buddhist, in particular, is in poor health, so he can't practice Taoism, preach and teach, dispel doubts, perform the task of self-interest and altruism, or even complete the mission of saving the world. Therefore, health is a special concern of people. When people meet again after a long separation, it is inevitable that they will ask each other about their physical condition; When people meet in the Spring Festival, they also wish each other health. When people write letters to their friends, they always greet their health and wish them all the best. It can be seen that everyone likes health, everyone wants health and everyone needs health. But how to become healthy? What is real health? From the standpoint of Buddhism, there is a special view. Generally speaking, people's health is divided into physical and psychological aspects. No illness, normal diet and good health; Normal thinking and reasonable behavior are mental health. Buddhism believes that the human body is composed of four elements. If one of them is not adjusted well, it will lead to many diseases. Only when the four elements are well balanced can the body be healthy. As for psychology, normal thinking and reasonable behavior are indeed healthy. However, the problem is that people and people's thoughts are different. Who is normal and who is not? As for human behavior, who is reasonable and unreasonable, who will evaluate it? Because most things in the world only rely on people's imagination or emotional attachment, lacking the basis of truth and certain norms, they often win with the masses. Everyone calls it "normal", so does everyone, even if it is "reasonable". Sakyamuni Buddha's view of "normal" and "reasonable" is that everyone is drunk and I wake up alone. He explored the truth of life with a clear mind and profound wisdom, and distinguished the right and wrong of the world with a correct concept. As a result, with the confirmation of the truth, he understood that all sentient beings had lost their authenticity, made a false plan and persisted, recognized everything in the world as true and reversed right and wrong. This insistence, whether self-imposed or legally enforced, is abnormal and unreasonable. Because all beings are obsessed with themselves, they are greedy if they obey me, angry if they don't obey me, and stupid if they don't understand obedience and disobedience. Greed and ignorance caused by clinging to me is a psychological problem. Since all sentient beings are obsessed with themselves and have greed and ignorance in their hearts, their thoughts are abnormal and their minds are unhealthy. So the Buddha said, "All beings are sick." This is a mental illness. At this point, you may suspect that I am really mentally ill. Otherwise, how can you scold people all over the world and think that all beings are mentally ill? Unfortunately, it is true. Please ask yourself, is there no greed in daily life? Or greed? Is it to forgive others? Or are you often angry and resentful? Is it to understand right and wrong and live in righteousness? Still don't ask right and wrong? If the answer belongs to the latter, then you really have psychological problems. Because as we all know, hatred and anger are abnormal, and it is even more unreasonable to take advantage, especially to destroy the truth, not to talk about justice, to invade with ambition and kill innocent people. Buddhism believes that unless everyone can completely eliminate inner greed, anger and delusion, otherwise, every living being is mentally abnormal and mentally ill. This kind of mental patient is deeply rooted and cannot be cured by ordinary doctors, nor can it be cured in this life. Because ordinary doctors can only treat people's physical problems, but can't treat people's psychological problems, even psychologists can only correct people's physiological and nervous system disorders, can't eradicate people's psychological greed, anger and madness, and can't clean up the dirt of people's ignorance and troubles. In this regard, only the Buddha, the supreme medical king, can cure ignorance and diseases in the hearts of all beings, and only the compassion and wisdom of Buddhism can clear the three poisons of greed and ignorance in people's hearts. Inspired by the Buddha's truth, Buddhist learners, after being washed by compassion and wisdom, gradually reduce, meager or even disappear the three poisons in their hearts in infinite time and space, until the last product is pure, and then they can restore normal human nature and mental health. Therefore, it is of special significance and value for me to discuss Buddhism and health today.
