Traditional Chinese medicine believes that dampness is one of the exogenous pathogens of "six evils", and its pathogenicity has three characteristics:
1. Dampness is yin evil, which is easy to hurt Yang Qi, which is not good for qi-flowing. It often leads to spleen-yang deficiency and has no right to transport and transform, which makes water wet and endogenous, causing diarrhea, edema and oliguria. Wet is ubiquitous water, which permeates the whole body. Dampness blocking the upper energizer leads to head tightness and chest tightness, while dampness blocking the middle energizer leads to abdominal distension, abdominal distension and uncomfortable stool. If you are wet, you won't burn, your abdomen will be full and you will have trouble urinating.
Second, the dampness is heavy and turbid, and it is easy to descend and attack the yin position. The dampness causes disease, which is characterized by heavy clinical manifestations and turbid excretion and secretion. Because dampness is tangible, its nature is yin, and the pathogen of dampness attacks people, and the lower head is wet. Diseases often have the manifestations of depression and attacking yin, such as edema of lower limbs and turbid urine.
Third, it is wet and sticky, and it is easy to get evil. The symptoms of wet disease are sticky and unpleasant, with slow onset and long course of disease, often repeated or lingering. Damp-evil is tangible, turbid and sticky in nature, and pathogenic factors are easy to attach, among which cold, heat and summer heat are the most common syndromes of damp-evil in clinic.
Because of this, some people often have a bad appetite in summer and attribute it to the hot weather. In fact, "heat" is not the main reason, "wet" is the culprit. "Wet" runs through the whole summer, not just those rainy days. The beginning of "wet" is Xiaoman, and the weather begins to be hot and humid in Xiaoman season. Such a climate is most likely to damage the function of the spleen and stomach, leading to indigestion and loss of appetite. In the whole season, prevent dampness and eliminate dampness first, protect the spleen and stomach, and lift the qi. There are many methods of "eliminating dampness" in traditional Chinese medicine, such as sweating, aromatization, invigorating the spleen and drying dampness, diuresis and eliminating dampness.
