The phrase "indifferent to infinity, all beauty follows it" comes from Zhuangzi-deliberately. Its complete statement is: "If a husband is not deliberately high, he will practice without benevolence, rule without name, loaf around without rivers and seas, live without guidance, forget everything, and be indifferent to infinity, and all the people will follow him." The way of heaven and earth is also the virtue of saints. "Vernacular translation: If a person becomes noble without sharpening his mind, can cultivate one's morality without stressing benevolence and righteousness, can govern the country without contending for fame, can wander the rivers and lakes without living, and can live a long life without guidance, then there is nothing he can't forget, and there is nothing he can't get. He is indifferent and infinite, and then all the good things will come to him. This is because he knows heaven and earth avenue, the virtue of saints. Before that, Zhuangzi listed five kinds of people, namely, Mountain Man (Gao Shi), Shu Ren (Gentleman), Imperial Court Man (Officers and Soldiers), River Man (Hermit) and Noble Man (Health Man). However, Zhuangzi denies these five kinds of people one by one, because what they pursue is nothing more than deliberate, benevolence, fame, leisure and longevity. These are just external purposes, or goals, not life itself. What Zhuangzi really pursues is the individual life, which is the life between heaven and earth and is stipulated by Tao.
? So, how to get this fulfilling life and how to get beauty? Zhuangzi gave us a prescription, that is, forgetting. So, first, who is forgetting, then what is forgotten, and finally how to forget.
Who is forgetting? Obviously, they are not the above five kinds of people mentioned by Zhuangzi, nor are they ordinary people, but saints, even people, gods and real people, because "God has no self, God is useless, and saints are nameless" ("Zhuangzi-Xiaoyao"). Here, Zhiren, Renshen, sage and real person are not different people, but actually the same kind of people who know how to forget. They are "selfless", "reactive" and "nameless" without self, which does not mean that they have no self, but are not self-centered and independent of the ego; Reactive power does not mean that there is no merit, but that you are not obsessed with utilitarian acquisition; Being nameless doesn't mean that you don't have a name, but you don't pay attention to the enjoyment and spread of fame. In short, they all actively abandoned what we actively pursue every day: both internal self-awareness and external value pursuit.
Forget what? What is forgotten is the above self, merit and name. We should also forget the intention, benevolence, fame, leisure and longevity. Here, benevolence and fame belong to moral values, deliberately to self-awareness, and leisure and longevity belong to emotional sustenance. However, these things need to be forgotten. Why? Because whether it is moral value, self-awareness or emotional sustenance, these are not the ultimate objects pursued by individuals, but will hinder the preservation of people's own lives and become the source of social unrest. "Little martyrdom, martyrdom, medical martyrdom, saint martyrdom. So several children, with different careers and different reputations, were injured because they were martyrs. " "Zhuangzi-Clear Thumb" "If you lose your virtue, you will lose your virtue; if you lose your benevolence, you will lose your benevolence; if you lose your benevolence, you will lose your righteousness; if you are rude, you will be rude. Husband's gift, loyalty is thin, and the head is chaotic "("Laozi-Chapter 38 ").
How to forget? As for forgetting, Zhuangzi put forward "keeping in mind" and "sitting and forgetting". In the fable of "Life on Earth", Yan Hui asked Confucius what "a quick heart" was, and Confucius replied: "If you are determined, listen with your heart, not your ears; Don't listen with your heart, listen with your breath. Listening stops at the ear, and the heart stops at the symbol. Angry people confuse the real with the fake. Only the Tao is empty. If you are empty, your heart will fast. " In other words, the heart is to empty the heart. Why is it empty? That is to get rid of all opinions, prejudices and prejudices, and then understand the way of nature with an empty heart. And "forgetting to sit" means "having a broken limb, being clever, knowing from the shape, being in harmony with one another, is called forgetting to sit" ("Zhuangzi-A Masterpiece"). On the basis of forgetting benevolence, righteousness, rites and music, Yan Hui can "sit and forget", that is to say, he must forget the moral value first, then forget his body and knowledge before he can reach the Tao. Zhuangzi told us that there are two ways to forget: "fasting in the heart" and "sitting and forgetting".
When we forget our self-awareness and morality and our personal emotional sustenance, we may be on the road. Forgetting means giving up everything you have and vacating yourself. And this empty self can just let Tao come in person. Because in Zhuangzi's view, Tao is nothing (see: On the Tao of Zhuangzi, No.9 Hubei Social Sciences, 2009). This nothingness of Tao cannot be grasped by words and thoughts, but it is true and defines heaven, earth and people. Therefore, people should also become an enlightened person. The man who gains the Tao is forgetful and real. So we should be as cold as real people.
What is "indifferent infinity"? In fact, it is said earlier that "everything is forgotten and everything is there." Indifferent to cognition and morality, they are not enough to be the dominant style of life, then we can achieve "high, cultivation, governance, leisure, longevity" and so on. In other words, all beautiful things will come together, and everything in the world will shine on me, and I will be one with everything. That is, to achieve the free realm of "spring with things."
