Aromatherapy for pain problems
First of all, essential oil is the secondary metabolite of plants, and the ingredients of many drugs are extracted from plants, and more than 99% of them are from plants, such as methyl salicylic acid, caffeine, alkaloids and so on. Plants have evolved on the earth for hundreds of millions of years, and with their own wisdom, they secrete volatile aromatic compounds to resist the invasion of animals, communicate with the same kind and attract the opposite sex to reproduce.

There are many kinds of pains, including neck and back pain (35%), knee and leg pain (33%) and other pains (65,438+08%). Pain is a signal and the beginning of physical warning, indicating that the body is potentially threatening. Pain itself is not a disease, but a symptom. There may be inflammation and hidden dangers in some places. Pain reminds us to pay attention to it when we need it. It is the key to restore the balance inside and outside the body, and it is also the most powerful part of aromatherapy.

20 16 Dr. hill expounded the pain problem as a whole, and divided it into three types: neuropathic pain, nociceptive pain and pain caused by the combination of body and mind, but in fact, some of them are metabolic pain. How does pain occur in daily life? Inflammation exists in inflammation, emotion, trauma and pathological pain. The problem we know best is inflammatory reaction, such as toothache, headache, lumbar disc pain or arthritis. These are all inflammatory reactions.

In medical definition, pain is actually a kind of tissue injury, or a potential injury, which leads to some unpleasant emotional reactions. When we fall or get injured, our body will be stimulated and transmitted to the spinal nerve through this peripheral nerve. To a certain extent, the gate of spinal nerve will be opened, and it will be transmitted to the cerebral cortex and limbic system to cause pain. These signals are transmitted back to some functional organs of our human body from the brain, which is a cycle, so when the body is in a state of pain, there are actually two systems, one is the inhibition system and the other is the enhancement system:

1. When we are more and more uneasy and fearful, when we are nervous and stressed, the sluice of this spinal nerve will open wider and aggravate the pain. Moreover, long-term pain will not only lead to the tension of sympathetic nerves, but also produce some new pain-causing substances, so this is a pain enhancement system.

2. Pleasant mood, gentle touch, or massage, rubbing, etc. These tactile stimuli can close the pain gate of the spinal cord and help relieve pain, which is the pain suppression system.

A psychological reaction is called the fight-and-flight reaction. When we are stimulated or frightened, the sympathetic nerve is often activated centrally. Will make adrenaline rise, causing a lot of visceral activity, then this systemic reaction is called hit-and-run reaction. It is a response to being alert and ready to escape after being stressed and stimulated. At this time, blood sugar will rise, metabolism will accelerate, and heart rate will accelerate. Pain is one of the emergency responses, and eczema is also an emergency response. Only when we are nervous, the degree of pain will be stronger, and when we are relaxed and happy, the degree of pain will be weaker. Therefore, in the pain suppression system, something similar to touching, gentle language, understanding emotions, or essential oil will be ingested to boost the overall mood. Some wounds are stored in our consciousness. Although things have passed, the mood is still there. If emotional energy is not released, it will be recorded in our bodies. The aromatherapy we use now can affect our emotional level and relieve pain more comprehensively.

1. chemical composition angle

Aromatherapy can treat pain by selecting some aromatic plants with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. These aromatic plants generally contain the following chemical components: sesquiterpenes, aldehydes, esters and phenols, which can help us relieve pain:

The main physiological functions of sesquiterpenes are to help diminish inflammation, sterilize, calm and relieve, and may also help us affirm ourselves. Representative essential oils: ginger, patchouli, Cuban balsam, ylang ylang, black pepper, etc., which we often use to relieve pain.

Some experimental studies show that there is a cannabinoid, a receptor of CB2, in the cells of our body. Pain is produced by the receptor of this cell in communication. An organic compound called β -caryophyllene can help us isolate this receptor, thus alleviating the pain caused by inflammatory reaction. β -caryophyllene is a sesquiterpene, and the highest content in Cuban balsam is 50%. In addition, it also exists in black pepper, vanilla, lilac ylang and juniper berries.

Aldehydes can help us to calm the central nervous system, and also help us to stimulate immunity and strengthen fascia. They represent essential oils: citronella, which is completely different from lemon, also known as lemon vanilla, appears in Thai cuisine; It will also have a good mosquito repellent effect and often appear in our pain.

* Phenols are the strongest sterilization, anti-infection, anti-virus, stimulating immunity and stimulating nervous system. Therefore, he will give us a sense of encouragement and warmth. If you need to relieve pain by relaxing channels and activating collaterals, you need some warm essential oils, such as cinnamon, clove, oregano and thyme (diced beef with cinnamon powder).

* The best function of esters is to balance sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves, which can make us calmer, more soothing and anti-spasmodic. It also has a good anti-inflammatory effect. Psychologically, it can strengthen our spiritual structure and give us a lot of strength. Representative essential oils: bergamot and lavender.

2. Angle of plant species

Essential oils can be divided into woody plants, leaves, seeds, roots, flowers, resins, etc., among which woody plants, leaves and seeds have certain analgesic effects.

The essential oil of woody plants has a good effect on the repair of tissue fluid.

The essential oils of many seeds are warm spices, such as cinnamon, clove and fennel. Cloves, in particular, will bring this numbness and help us relieve the pain.

Mint (a leafy plant) can help local cooling and local pain, and it will enhance all the strength in front, so we usually put mint in the last step when layering.

Dortmund has single essential oil and compound essential oil. What I want to emphasize in particular is the compound essential oil, which has the golden ratio formula of the whole scientist team, which is completely different from our own. Compound essential oil is suitable for three types of pain:

Traumatic pain, ankle sprain: soothing compounds will protect our muscles from inflammation and relieve pain.

Mint: the whole product has a strong soothing and cooling effect, which is helpful for rheumatism and arthritis;

After using this soothing compound essential oil, we often match it with soothing cream, which contains a whole bottle of soothing. These two kinds can be used together before, during and after exercise as essential oils to help our musculoskeletal system.

③ Combination of body and mind: it is the mental burden and pressure caused by traumatic pain, which is caused by emotions. It is more suitable for conditioning and compounding with fragrance, especially a compound essential oil for conditioning our body and mind.

Unilateral introduction of aromatic conditioning compound essential oil;

The aromatic conditioning compound combined with body and mind contains Marjoram, Basil, Cedar, Lavender, Round Pomelo and Mint, among which Cedar has astringent effect, and Round Pomelo is also called Grapefruit, which can stimulate lymph glands and improve cellulite and edema, so the aromatic conditioning compound must be added to the pain with edema problem.

As far as pain is concerned, we often encounter such usage:

1. Basil can dispel dampness and promote blood circulation. When the humidity and cold in our body are heavy, besides ginger, turmeric, vetiver and patchouli, we can also consider trying basil essential oil, especially for some gout-type pain or rheumatic pain, and we will often use it.

2. bergamot helps us protect our nerves, regulate our emotions and integrate our body and mind. We will definitely use these essential oils.

When we have abdominal pain, we often use black pepper.

Iv. Formulas of various analgesic essential oils

In the acute stage of pain, we generally recommend layered application: after using coconut oil as the base, apply it layer by layer with pure oil. Usually, you must choose frankincense and mint. First use frankincense, then use other essential oils in turn, and finally use mint as the ending. Generally, it will be mixed with oil for long-term maintenance after a week of stratification.

1. Joint pain is often treated with frankincense. Frankincense is a switch that can open our body and stimulate immune response. It is anti-inflammatory and soothing. Holly, marjoram, Cuban balsam, ginger and black pepper are applied in layers.

2. If synovitis has hydrops, oregano will be added in the acute stage (this formula will be cancelled after seven days, and it must be iced within 24 or 48 hours of synovitis or sprain. After the ice is finished, apply these essential oils layer by layer. In this case, the swelling will be reduced faster. In addition, gestures should be applied to the heart: just apply them to the heart. For example, knee problems, I will use this gesture to apply from bottom to top. When I lie down, I will put a pillow under this leg, which is higher than our heart. )

Formula: ginger, turmeric, fennel, gentle care, ylang ylang and bergamot, with 5%-8% in the lower abdomen, lower back and groin smear and massage. It should be noted here that many women's buttocks are very cold, so I suggest that you often rub their buttocks hot.

4. Lemon grass: It is very good for stimulating leg circulation. Generally, people with bad waist will have sciatica. You will feel pain from the bottom to the thigh along the way, right? Then lemon grass can be used at this time, which is good for leg circulation. Then we can also use lemongrass if we are treating some acute sprains urgently. It can repel mosquitoes in summer, including the stimulation to our digestive tract, and it is also some of the main functions of lemongrass.

5. Permanent flowers promote blood circulation, which can make our blood circulation smoother and stimulate our lymph flow.

6. Holly, I only add it when it hurts, because it contains methyl salicylate, so you can only use it when it hurts, basically for a week, and you can stop adding it when it doesn't hurt.
