Xichang is in the southwest of Sichuan, belonging to Sichuan Province.

Xichang City is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province, in the hinterland of Anning River Plain, the second largest plain in Sichuan Province. It is the capital of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, the largest Yi inhabited area in China, and also the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of Panxi area. Xichang has been an important passage to the southwest border of the motherland since ancient times, and the ancient "Southern Silk Road" must pass through.

Xichang covers an area of 2,882.9 square kilometers, governs 25 towns (streets), has a permanent population of 955,000, and the urbanization rate is 66.93%. Xichang belongs to the tropical plateau monsoon climate zone, with warm winter and cool summer, spring-like seasons, abundant rainfall, concentrated rainfall, abundant sunshine and abundant light and heat resources.
