1. World Championship
The World Championships is the most complicated competition system among the three major competitions. Take this year's World Championships in Japan as an example.
There are 24 teams participating in the finals. The previous competition system is roughly as follows:
In the first stage, 24 teams decided 12 seed teams according to the organizers and world rankings. After that, they were evenly divided into four groups, A, B, C and D, with 6 teams in each group. The single round robin system in the group determines the ranking of the group. The top three in the group will advance to the second stage of the competition, and the fourth, fifth and sixth places will be eliminated.
In the second stage, the advanced 12 teams are divided into three groups, e, f and g, with four teams in each group (this group is not randomly selected, but fixed according to the seating pattern before the competition), that is, group e is 1A, 2B, 2C and 3D, and group f is 1B, 2A, 2D and 3C. The group single round robin determines the group ranking, and the team ranked fourth in the three groups and the team ranked third with the worst performance will be eliminated (* * * eliminated four teams), that is, the top two teams in the three groups and the two teams ranked third with the best performance will enter the next round. Passed the first one
The eight teams in the second stage will continue to participate in the next quarter-finals;
The third stage, entering the knockout stage; The first is the quarter-finals. In the first group, there are two games, E 1-F3 or G3, F 1-E3 or G3. Two winners play semi-finals, and the other two are G 1-E2 and F2-G2. Similarly, the winner of the two semi-finals plays the other semi-finals, and the winner of the two semi-finals plays the final third place.
This is the common competition system of previous World Championships. This competition system has two shortcomings: first, because the grouping process of the right seat is formulated before the game, it is possible to fake the ball in order to choose the opponent in the game and let the ball happen; Second, in the second stage, you may meet your opponent in the first stage of the group stage, that is, play against the same team twice;
At the 2006 World Volleyball Championships held in Japan this year, the competition system changed as follows:
In the first stage, 24 teams were divided into four groups: A, B, C and D, with 6 teams in each group. After a single cycle in the group, the ranking of the group is determined, the top four teams advance to the second stage, and the fifth and sixth teams are eliminated. At this stage, each team will play five games;
In the second stage, the 16 team was divided into two groups, E and F. Group E was the top four in Groups A and D, and Group F was the top four in Groups B and C, with eight teams in each group. At the same time, the results of the first stage will be brought into the second stage, that is, the teams that met in the first stage will not play against each other in the second stage, so that each team only played four games in the second stage. The top two in each group directly enter the top four;
In the third stage, the top two players in Group E and Group F will cross the semi-finals, E 1-F2 and F 1-E2, and decide the third place in the championship.
This new competition system determines that if you want to get a good ranking, you must go all out in every stage of every game, which limits the occurrence of the ball-letting event to a certain extent, but it is not absolute. For example, the top two teams in Group F are most likely to be Italian and Cuban, while in Group E, there are China, Russian, Brazil and the United States. It's hard to say whether there will be an opponent who is more beneficial to the semi-finals, but people are often worse than the sky!
Look at the grouping of women's volleyball this year:
Group A: Japanese team, Korean team, Polish team, Costa Rica team, China Taipei team and Kenyan team;
Group B: China, Russian Federation, Germany, Mexico, Dominica and Azerbaijan;
Group C: Brazil, USA, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Kazakhstan, Cameroon;
Group D: Italy, Cuba, Turkey, Egypt, Serbia and Montenegro and Peru.
2. World Cup Volleyball Match
The world cup volleyball tournament system is very simple, that is, a big cycle of 12 teams, that is, each team has to play 1 1 match.
The World Cup is divided into two groups, A and B, which are divided into three stages, namely, the first stage is the same group competition, and the second and third stages are the two groups competition. Finally, according to the number of wins and losses of each team, as well as the c value and z value, the ranking is made.
3. Olympic volleyball match
Including the champions from all continents, the top three in the World Cup, the host country and the champions who failed to participate in the competition *** 12 teams are divided into two groups, A and B. First, the group single round robin is played, and the top four with the best results enter the top eight, and the last two in each group are eliminated; The quarter-finals started with cross-elimination, a1-B4; a2-B3; a3-B2; A4-B 1, then the winner of A 1-B4 and the winner of A3-B2 compete for a semi-final place, and the winner of A2-B3 and the winner of A4-B 1 compete for another semi-final place, and finally the champion is decided.
