What is the archetypal story of Madame Butterfly?
The original play was actually inspired by the French novelist Lottie's Lady Agatha. Lottie's novel was based on her own experience of contacting geisha when she was a diplomat in Japan. Now when publishing a biography about Japanese geisha, the publishing house deliberately renders it as the prototype of Madame Butterfly, which is actually just a propaganda means.

Madame Butterfly is a great lyric tragedy of Italian playwright Puccini. Set in Japan, the play tells that the heroine Jojo Sang has been staying in the boudoir since she married the US Navy officer Pinkel, but when she came, she turned her back on her, and Jojo Sang finally committed suicide.

Opera background

Different from traditional Chinese opera: the overture is very short. The string band played the theme of cramped rhythm and noisy sound in the form of fugue. When the curtain is opened, people will immediately understand that it is used to set off the tension in wedding planning. But somehow, it doesn't sound happy, but it vaguely reveals a bad omen.

The story took place in Nagasaki, Japan around 1900. Captain Pinkerton of the US Navy married a Japanese bride, Jo Jo Sang (Butterfly), but Pinkerton only took part in the performance. Shortly after their marriage, Pinkerton was recalled to China. Three years later, he and his American wife came to Japan again. Pinkerton learned that Jojo Sang had a son and decided to adopt him.

Qiaoqiaosang, who is loyal to Pinkerton, is heartbroken. She asked Pinkerton to come back in half an hour to have a baby. She put an American flag in her son's hand, blindfolded him and committed suicide.
