Plot:
Sometimes, the so-called wise decision only represents the interests of most people ... In 2008, a deadly virus that can spread through skin contact appeared, infected millions of people and directly paralyzed Scotland. British government agencies can't think of any good strategies to control the virus. They can only declare Scotland an epidemic area and isolate all civilians there, hoping to control the spread of the virus. Every highway, viaduct and railway is guarded by the army, and no vehicles are allowed to enter or leave. At the same time, in order to strengthen the blockade, a high steel fence was built. Now Scotland has completely become a forgotten "land of death", a paradise where viruses are rampant.
In 2033, the virus broke out again, this time in highly populated London. It seems that the wishful thinking of "protecting the lives of most people" made by the government 25 years ago has completely failed. Bill Nelson, director of the National Security Agency, was summoned by Prime Minister Michael Card Nasi. He showed Bill the photos taken by satellite, showing that there are still signs of people alive in the "epidemic area"-there are survivors, which means there are ways to fight the virus.
Bill quickly gathered a group of his best experts and decided to venture into that forgotten remote place to find an anti-virus. The commander of this operation is Eden Sinclair, and his style is quite tough. She led the team members to step on the bodies all over the street and enter the abandoned epidemic area. But she was surprised to find that this place, which has been isolated for 25 years, has long been a wild place, full of fierce and wild survivors. In anarchy, it is similar to factional fighting between tribes. Eden and her team unfortunately entered the gap between two bloodthirsty factions, and only by constantly fighting can they win the right to live here.
Behind the scenes:
The revival of genre films
The appearance of "The End of the World" witnessed the greatest contribution made by the acclaimed new director neil marshall so far. Before that, he had been recognized by many people for his two excellent films, Dark Attack and Shining Warrior. For the Englishman Marshall, for this film, he has tried his best to combine exciting action scenes with thrilling horror suspense, and then added futuristic style and nightmare terrain not too far away to decorate it ... For the modern film industry that relies too much on CGI, Marshall did the opposite and did not bet on the flashy effect created by computer numbers. Instead, he tends to create a genre film that grew up with him-this is very rare today when everything is diversified. Marshall said frankly: "As far as the movie" The End of the World "is concerned, the only thing I insist on and will never waver is to make it an action movie that pursues truth. Few people really do this now. What I want to do is to use real performances and do some really dangerous stunts in a real environment, without computer synthesis, green screen and prestige, just using those crazy stunts, such as jumping up and down from a car at 80 miles an hour, boxing to hand-to-hand combat. Although it is in a quite' old' way, this film still represents my imagination of the future. "
According to Benedict abal, the producer and chairman of Crystal Sky Pictures, as long as the names of producers Steve Paul and neil marshall are linked together, it means that they are experiencing an evolution in a movie. They started with a small production with a surprisingly small budget, and then rose step by step. Now, they are already making such a heavyweight work as The End of the World, which has almost become a natural and unexpected progress. Cearbhall said: "The Shining Warrior is a very excellent, economical and thrifty film, as is Dark Attack, which is both Marshall's editing and his director. If you are a good director, you can control movies of any size. According to my observation, the first two works are enough to show Marshall's unparalleled film talent, and you will certainly be able to shoot this "End of the World". "
This movie can also remind you of the very eye-catching and popular genre movies from the 1970s to the early 1980s, although it is obviously the product of the modern system. Producer Steve Paul said: "neil marshall's latest work is inspired by past post-apocalyptic films, such as Escape from new york, Warrior, The Last Man and Crazy Max. Our original intention is to remind people of j carpente and george miller at that time, as well as all the great genre directors from 1970s to the end of the world. This film really represents that we are paying tribute to that era, but Marshall also injected a unique and original mixed style into it. "
At first, neil marshall imagined an ultra-modern action hero, fighting a knight in armor in a post-apocalyptic place ... This is the embryonic form of the story told in The End of the World. Marshall said: "I suddenly had an epiphany, thinking that this type of film has not appeared in the film industry for a long time, and I have always wanted to find an opportunity to return to the film atmosphere I once loved very much."
However, filmmakers also realize that there are many difficulties to overcome in expressing a picture with this postmodern style. Cearbhall said: "We know it will be a difficult film to integrate, because basically, it is a large-scale work, but we don't want to invest too much budget in it. Moreover, neil marshall hopes that all special effects will be done by real people instead of relying too much on computer special effects. So we must find a place that looks like a' real' feeling, instead of relying on the help of computers to produce the effects we want. "
If you want to shoot a real feeling, you must also find a group of actors who are willing to undertake this kind of performance. They can punch hard, endure special pain, shave their heads, fight swords, chase cars, eat people's feasts, fight in groups and so on.
In the near future
Almost five years ago, neil marshall began to write plays, and the whole story revolves around the central figure Eden Sinclair. When Marshall described this role, he said, "Eden is a shrewd and tenacious fighter and the most ruthless killer in the future world, but on her way forward, her soul has lost its way. Eden is a product of the system, but she has a unique birth background, which connects her with the whole story through a very emotional level: her task is not only to find a vaccine to cure the virus, but also to embark on a road of redemption and regain her soul. Eden had to face the repressed humanity again. In fact, Scotland is her hometown, and only there can she find everything she lost as a child. The virus has brought disastrous effects to her hometown, so she must be independent when she grows up, because she has no one to rely on except herself. Eden learned the art of fighting in the street, just to fight for the right of survival among human beings. "
In previous works, most of the actors selected by neil marshall are relatively unknown. He also announced that he intends to use the same card in all his works, just like director john ford. He said, "This idea is very idealistic. I want to work with the same faces in every movie, and then try to dig out their different sides every time, give them new roles, and let them have fun from the performance because of the change. At the same time, I will definitely find some new faces to join in and inject some fresh vitality. "
The film producer, who is both a screenwriter and a director, also said that he had to choose actors to play various roles before he could write a script by imagining some of their behaviors. Of course, he doesn't need to polish some roles for the registered special actors ... in short, he keeps an open mind throughout the creative process. In fact, in order to find the right person to play Eden, neil marshall also held a public audition.
Among those who came to audition, a sasha jackson named rhona mitra stood out. She lives in Los Angeles now. Because of her outstanding performances in a series of TV series such as boston legal and Plastic Surgery, and in films such as Sniper for Life and Death and Spirit 23, she was deeply impressed. Director neil marshall said, "She did a great job in the audition. When we saw her again in London, we realized that we had found the Garden of Eden ... She interpreted the tenacity and tenacity of this role just right, and at the same time she could understand the emotional changes that Eden experienced in her inner world and countless connections with the past. "
With the keen sense of smell of a professional actor, rhona mitra found something special about the Garden of Eden in an instant. She said, "She suddenly woke up because she saw the current situation in her hometown. Because of a special task, she returned to the place where she was born and seized this opportunity to start looking for the truth behind all the events. What she experienced was incredibly diverse and complicated. She walked through a world created by neil marshall, which was a fusion of history, style, culture, madness and other imaginations. Eden is not the kind of person who will take the initiative to take responsibility. She just saw the real world clearly. She is not the kind of woman who is not sensible, let alone a tigress, but she is down-to-earth and serious. Eden is the kind of London girl with street wisdom. Just like me in real life, she must have a certain body shape, but I don't want her to look like she is in the gym 24 hours a day. "
Rhona mitra still remembers the first time she met director neil marshall and discussed the role. She realized that his self-confidence was so obvious that she got the full support of the publishing company in the process of writing this story. They also discussed how the heroine of this action was repeatedly treated rudely on the big screen. They found that there were two people together: one was linda hamilton's role in Terminator, and the other was sigourney weaver in Alien series. When Maitra tried to find inspiration for these powerful female characters, she was also influenced by two men. She said, "In some scenes, I suddenly feel that I have found the feeling of mel gibson or Harrison Ford."
