Elephants are national first-class protected animals.

At present, elephants are large terrestrial animals, and the length of ivory can reach more than one meter. Ivory can also be said to be a very useful defensive weapon. Elephants have small eyes and big ears, which can cover the sides of their necks in the future.

Elephants have strong limbs. Its forelimbs have five toes, its hind limbs have four toes, its tail is short and thin, its skin thickness will be wrinkled, and its whole body will have sparse short hair. Its body length is about 5 to 6 meters, its estimated height is 2.7 meters, and its weight can reach 4 to 5 tons.

Because ivory has always been used as a valuable carving material, it is expensive, so elephants are killed at will, resulting in a sharp decline in the number of protected animals. Therefore, we call on everyone to protect wild animals and care for the environment.

Current status of elephant population:

1, population

There were 6 families of long-nosed animals, 5 of which were extinct, and only 2 genera and 3 species of 1 family were found. As the name implies, this animal has a long nose with finger-like protrusions at the end, so it can pick up small things. Elephantidae includes 2 genera and 3 species of animals, namely Asian elephant, African elephant and African forest elephant.

2. Distribution range

There used to be six rhinoceroses, five of which were extinct. Only three species (Asian elephants and African elephants) belonged to 1 family ***2, and three species were Asian elephants, African elephants and African forest elephants. Asian elephants were once widely distributed in the south of the Yangtze River in China, south-central Henan, South Asia and Southeast Asia, but now their distribution has decreased, mainly in India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries.

There are also a few wild populations in Xishuangbanna, China. African elephants are widely distributed throughout the African continent (except the Sahara desert). African forests seem to live in forests in the central and western parts of the African continent.
