The owner of the Water Cube is Beijing State-owned Assets Management Co., Ltd., the design unit is jointly designed by China Architectural Design Consortium, Australian PTW Architectural Design Office and ARUP Arup Engineering Consulting Company, the architectural design unit is the Institute of Architectural Acoustics and Interior Design of Beijing Tsinghua Tongheng Planning and Design Institute Co., Ltd., and the construction unit is China Construction No.1 Engineering Development Co., Ltd.
CITIC Consortium also owns the franchise right of Bird's Nest for 30 years after the Olympic Games.

The Bird's Nest is used to host major international, regional and domestic events in China, as well as some non-traditional sports events.
