Usually refers to a substance that conducts electricity in solution, but molten and solid conductive electrolytes also exist. This includes most soluble salts, acids and bases. Some gases, such as hydrogen chloride, can also be used as electrolyte at high temperature or low pressure. Electrolytes are usually divided into strong electrolytes and weak electrolytes.

History:
From 188 1, Svante August Arrhenius began to study electrolytes under the guidance of Eric Edlund. 1884, he submitted a doctoral thesis of about 150 pages to Uppsala university.
It is the first time to put forward the viewpoint that "solid crystalline salt will decompose into charged particles when dissolved", and explain the conductive mechanism of electrolyte solution through the concept of ions. 65438-0903 won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Michael faraday thought that ions were produced during electrolysis, while Arrhenius thought that salt solution contained ions even without current, so the chemical reaction in the solution was the reaction between ions.
