How to set up input hardware
Set the microphone
Locate the sound connection jack, and then connect the microphone jack to the computer. Most computers use a built-in sound card, and the connection is usually on the back of the computer.
There are several connection sockets with the same size and diameter as the microphone socket. Locate the microphone connection jack. The connection jack is marked with a small microphone icon or descriptive label.
Insert the microphone plug into the microphone connection socket.
To test the microphone connection, perform the following steps: The microphone box displays a linear indicator of the input sound. If the microphone is accepting input, a bar indicating the volume will be displayed. The indicating position of ordinary voice should be slightly lower than half a height. If there is no sound indication, please make sure that the microphone is turned on. Some models have a mute switch. In addition, please verify the connection with the computer. Some computers have several places to plug in a microphone.
First, go to the "Configure Microphone" section and see if you can make some adjustments to solve this problem.
If there is still no indication sound, go to the "Select Audio Input Device Line" section to see if the line is not the one you are using, and then go to the "Change Input Volume" section to adjust the volume of the line (if necessary).
If this doesn't solve the problem, please go to the section "How to solve the problems in speech recognition" to find out the problem diagnosis steps.
If there is an audible indication, continue to the next section to configure your microphone (if the system provides this option). If you are not provided with this option, but your microphone is running, please go to How to set up the output hardware to ensure that the speakers are installed correctly.
If you have multiple microphones, and you want one microphone for speech recognition and the other microphone for all other sound input, go to the section "Selecting an audio input device".
If there is no sound indication after connecting the microphone, you can try several methods:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type control in the Open box, and then press Enter.
Double-click voice.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type controlmmsys.cplsound in the Open box, and then press Enter. The Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window will be displayed.
Click Voice in the Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window.
Note If there are no sound, voice and audio device windows, but there are sound and audio device windows, the voice component may be in a separate window. In this case, please follow the following steps:
Click the Speech Recognition tab.
Speak directly into the microphone. The sound level should be displayed in the Microphone Level indicator.

Use Automatic Line Selection: When you click this option, the input line will be set as the default line determined by the voice system. Because of the different drivers, functions and languages used, there are some differences in the options selected.
The default value does not apply to all options. If the default row does not work properly, please manually select a new row. To do this, click Use this audio input line.
Use this audio input line: When you click this option, you can select another audio input line. This option includes all audio cables of the computer. However, please note that not all audio lines support voice.

Usually, a computer has only one input device, such as an earphone microphone. This device is the default device in the voice properties. For each operating system, the default device is specified in the sound or multimedia properties of the control panel.
Use this audio input device: When you click this option, you can choose another device to use exclusively for voice programs. Click this option to switch to a different input device. The drop-down list is available only when other devices are available. In this drop-down list, click the device you want to use. If you make a selection here, the default devices of other audio programs will not change. For example, for all voice input, you may want to use a headphone microphone instead of a non-directional microphone.
Change the input volume
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type controlmmsys.cplsound in the Open box, and then press Enter. The Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window will be displayed.
Click Voice in the Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window.

Type control in the Open box, and then press Enter.
Double-click voice.
Click the Speech Recognition tab, click Audio Input, and then click Volume.
The volume control mixer will be displayed. Turn the volume to the level you want.
Note that not all devices support this option in the same way. Some devices do not support volume control, and the volume option is not available. Other engines may use their own interfaces. In this case, please follow the instructions displayed on the screen or the instructions for the specific engine.
If you want to set up speakers or other output devices, please continue reading the section "How to set up output hardware". If you don't need to set up an output device, please go to the "How to Train Speech Recognition" section to prepare for using speech recognition.
How to set up output hardware
Set the speaker
To set up the speakers, follow these steps:
Locate the sound connection and connect the speaker jack to the computer. Because most computers use a built-in sound card, the connection is usually located on the back of the computer. There are several connection sockets with the same size and diameter as the speaker sockets. Generally speaking, there are two kinds of sound output connection sockets:
One is a connection marked as output. Most speakers that require an independent power supply (such as a transformer or battery) use this interface. This connection jack is also used to output amplified sound to recording devices, such as recordable CD and cassette tape systems.
The other connection jack is used for passive speakers. Because the computer will amplify the signal, if an active speaker is connected here, it will cause damage.
Insert the speaker plug into the correct connection socket.
To test the speaker connection, perform the following steps:
If you hear a sound, go to the "Setting Audio Output Device Options" section to set advanced audio output options, or go to the "How to Train Speech Recognition" section to prepare for using speech recognition.
If you have multiple output devices, and you want one device to be used only for speech recognition and the other devices to be used for all other sound outputs, please go to the section "Selecting audio output devices".
If you can't hear the sound after connecting the speakers, please go to the section "How to solve the problems in text-to-speech conversion".
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type control in the Open box, and then press Enter.
Double-click voice.
Click the Text to Speech tab, and then click Preview Speech to listen to the selected speech. You can then read the text and the words will be highlighted. If the speakers are working properly, you will hear what is said.
Select an audio output device
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type controlmmsys.cplsound in the Open box, and then press Enter. The Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window will be displayed.
Click Voice in the Sound, Voice, and Audio Devices window.
Note If there are no sound, voice and audio device windows, but there are sound and audio device windows, the voice component may be in a separate window. In this case, please follow the following steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type control in the Open box, and then press Enter.
Double-click voice.
Click the Text to Speech tab, and then click Audio Output.
Click any of the following options:
Use preferred audio device: When you click this option, the output device will be set as the default device of the computer. Click this option if you want to use this sound output device for all other sound outputs of the system at the same time. This is also the default option for the Voice property. Usually, a computer has only one output device, such as a pair of speakers. For each operating system, the default device is specified in the sound or multimedia properties of the control panel.
Use this audio output device: When you click this option, you can choose another device to use exclusively for voice programs. The drop-down list is available only when other devices are available. In this drop-down list, click the device you want to use. When you make a selection here, the default devices of other audio programs will not change. For example, you may want to use headphones instead of speakers for all voice output.
