Introduction to starring:
Vladimir Garin plays his brother Andre.
The director spent six months casting roles in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Jia Lin, age 15, is one of 600 applicants. Garin is a rising star in the local drama circle. He is preparing to take vocal lessons and is determined to become an opera singer. At the beginning of the film, Garin was asked to jump into the lake from a high platform. Although he was afraid of water, he insisted on going into battle in person, and his professionalism deeply touched the director. In June, 2003, Garin went to a lake in St. Petersburg to play. Once again, he had an accident while performing diving in front of his friends. Unfortunately, he drowned. On the day of his accident, it was the first anniversary of the filming of Return, and the location was at the lake where Jialin filmed the high platform diving.
Ivan Dobronravov plays his younger brother Ivan.
Ivan, who was only 13 years old at the time of shooting, had already had performance experience in stage plays and TV plays before he participated in Return. At a young age, he has been able to adapt to the inhuman filming life. Most of the scenes in the movie are in northern Russia, where it is summer. The local sunshine time is almost 24 hours, so the staff can have more time to shoot, and of course the working hours will be lengthened, but Ivan has no complaints.
