Exit and reopen the application:

Many other applications, such as Safari browser, Chrome browser, Photoshop and so on, will generate a large number of temporary cache files when they run.

If you don't quit these applications for a long time, these cached files will continue to grow and generally will not be cleared (until the application quits);

2. Restart the Mac and install system updates:

Although we rarely restart the Mac computer, I still want to point out that restarting the Mac computer can release considerable disk space. Restarting the Mac computer can refresh the system cache, clean up some application caches, install system updates, and perhaps more importantly, clear these two items: virtual memory Swapfile and Sleepimage file.

If you rarely restart your Mac computer, both of them will become very big. When the Mac computer is restarted, these two files will be cleared. In the following example, these two temporary files occupy 2 1 GB of disk space. So restart the Mac computer regularly, get back these disk spaces and install updates;

3. Clean up the download folder:

The Downloads folder is notorious. Usually I don't care much, but after a while, there will be a lot of things in this folder. Go to your corresponding folder (~/Downloads directory), sort the files according to the size of the occupied disk space, and then delete all unnecessary files.

So I hope Mac users can form a good habit: manage the "download" folder. Generally speaking, after installing the application, delete the installed. Dmg file; After decompressing the file, delete the original compressed file and archive the commonly used files regularly;

4. Empty the wastebasket:

Sounds obvious, right? But it's easy to forget. After a period of "growth", the wastebasket will continue to "grow". Sometimes the hard disk space of the Mac computer is insufficient just because many things have been moved to the wastebasket, but in fact these things still exist on your disk. If you rarely empty the wastebasket, right-click the wastebasket icon and select "Empty the wastebasket".
