Introduction of MKV(Matroska) format

Mkv is not a compressed format, DivX and XviD are video compressed formats, and mp3 and ogg are audio compressed formats. Mkv is a "combination" and "encapsulation" format.

For example, only the combination of video XviD ID and audio mp3 appears as multimedia media, the most common is avi, followed by ogm, and less common is mp4.

Avi has been around for more than 10 years, and it is getting old. There is no improvement except that there are two tracks through VD in recent years.

The appearance of ogm marks the emergence of multi-track format, which can synthesize more than 8 tracks. Ogg format is naturally added to audio. The important thing is that it can "embed" subtitles, which foreigners call "soft subtitles". It can be switched on and off at will and can "embed" more than 8 subtitles. The fly in the ointment is that it only supports srt format, not Unicode, which is seriously insufficient for Asian characters. There is also a chapter function, which can customize the paragraph and select it when playing. Is it more and more like a DVD? However, the ogm source code at that time was not open, only a few people were developing it, and the natural progress was slow, and it almost fell into "death" a while ago. Recently released open source code, joined the ranks of open source and started development again.

Mkv appeared in the stagnation period of ogm and was developed by Russian programmers. It was open source from the beginning, so it got the help of many other programmers, and the development speed was quite fast.

Ogm has all mkv and many unique functions. The most exciting one is the plug-in developed by Gabest (the company that develops vobsub). It not only develops a special player, Media Player Classic (commonly known as MPC), but also has powerful functions that I believe everyone who has used it will understand. Many multiplexers (synthesizers) for MKV have also been developed, especially those in real number format. Real rmvb is a closed format, and official Helix doesn't support multi-channel at all, so although the algorithm is excellent, it can only give way to avi and ogm, which can synthesize AC3 and DTS.

The Realmedia Splitter and mkv Mux developed by Gabest can make rmvb format video and AC3 and DTS synthesize mkv, which fundamentally overcomes the weakness of rmvb audio. Furthermore, two plug-ins, VSFilter.dll and SubtitleSource.ax, have been developed, and they announced their support for soft subtitles in ssa and ass formats.

You don't need a special player to play Matro Ska. Any DirectShow player can play MKV, OGM and MP4 files, such as Classic, BSplayer, ZoomPlayer and even Windows Media player.

The existing player can play MKV format only by installing the corresponding splitter plug-in.
