Submitting a popular science article found that "coffee causes cancer" has been screened! ? I was so scared that I drank a cup of coffee to calm my nerves.
Whether to drink or not is up to everyone.
I have no intention of quitting coffee. I'm not addicted, and I don't want to live on coffee. I know almost nothing about technical terms such as different places of origin, different treatment methods and different utensils. It's just that the smell of coffee at home makes me want to stop every morning.
So let's share how to reduce the garbage that may be caused by drinking coffee from the perspective of a small white coffee and zero waste, and also ask professionals to pat and provide suggestions!
My zero-waste coffee routine
I used to go to chain coffee shops occasionally to order lattes. Until my birthday two years ago, I received a capsule coffee machine as a gift. Since then, I have added an option to the breakfast menu: coffee.
Compared with the 30-yuan latte in the store, capsule coffee is obviously much cheaper and more convenient. However, after becoming zero waste, I can't look directly at coffee capsules soon. Although used capsules can be taken to Nespresso store for recycling, the actual recovery rate and efficiency are questioned by many parties.

So, when all the capsules at home are used up, I will stop buying new capsules and try to explore more sustainable ways to drink coffee.
What do you use to make coffee?
Since you want to make coffee at home, the right tools are essential. Just as I was floating up and down in the ocean of various instruments, usage methods, precautions and other professional knowledge, suddenly one day, a mocha pot fell from the sky and came at me! I accidentally saw a brand-new mocha pot in a second-hand transaction. Well, it's you!
At first, I bought ground coffee powder and cooked it. Later, I learned that the flavor of coffee beans will soon be lost after being ground into powder. Soga, you need a grinder. In this way, I changed a manual bean grinder in another second-hand exchange. what can I say? It's never wrong to participate in second-hand exchange activities!
The two on the right are second-hand treasures.
In addition, hand brewing is also a relatively smooth coffee tasting method at present. The required instruments include hand-washing pots, filter cups and filter paper, most of which are disposable. Zero waste can be replaced by reusable flannel filter cloth.
How to buy coffee beans?
Both coffee powder and coffee beans can be bought in bulk with their own containers, reducing packaging waste. Where can I buy it? Personal experience is that boutique coffee shops can generally accept their own containers, or they can hook up and ask the barista how to choose and make coffee.
How to install it? If it is not too heavy, you can buy beans directly from a glass jar, or you can choose a lighter cotton bag. Of course, it is best to go home as soon as possible and put it in a sealed container.
Please enjoy the video during the purchase process (this is my first vlog, please be sure to ignore the dizzy shots and poor editing techniques).
The coffee SOHOC with no interest relationship in the video is COFFEE HOLIC (located at 0 169- 1 floor 1 center, Beijing Chaowai), and the barista is Meng Mengda MengMeng (whose real name is MengMeng! ), every time I take the trouble to teach me coffee, everyone can enjoy chatting with him ~ ~
How to use coffee grounds?
Don't throw away coffee grounds after drinking coffee! At present, most coffee grounds are mixed with other garbage for landfill or incineration, which on the one hand increases the burden of garbage disposal, on the other hand, it is also a great waste of resources, because even if it becomes residue, it is still valuable!
The following companies/studios have opened their minds and turned coffee grounds into valuables through various projects:
///Raise mushrooms
Since 20 1 1 year, the staff of GroCycle Company in the UK have been cycling through the streets and lanes, and * * * has recovered 62,337 kilograms of coffee grounds from large and small coffee shops with only one purpose-to grow mushrooms! Coffee grounds contain about 2% nitride, which is very suitable for mushroom cultivation substrate.

In addition to supplying mushrooms to local restaurants and shops, GroCycle also sells mushroom planting packages. As long as it takes 14 days, you can eat your own fresh mushrooms at home!

///Printed clothes
Stencilworks is a screen printing studio located in California, USA. They collected coffee grounds from nearby cafes and made them into dyes. Each gallon (about 3.8 liters) of coffee grounds can dye 50 T-shirts, and each T-shirt in official website costs $28.

///as fuel
Bio-bean, a British technology company, was founded on 20 13, which is the first company in the world to industrially produce coffee grounds into biofuels. Bio-bean extracted coffee oil from coffee grounds, and then mixed it with ordinary diesel oil to make B20 biodiesel (80% ordinary diesel oil +20% biofuel). Compared with traditional diesel fuel, B20 fuel can reduce carbon emissions by 10%- 15%. This new fuel has been used on buses in London since 20 17 1 1.

Bio-bean also makes coffee grounds into charcoal blocks for ordinary families to use.
///Pave the road
At Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, Professor Arul Arulrajah has been studying how to use waste materials for highway construction. Professor Arul, who loves coffee, saw coffee grounds dumped in a coffee shop one day and suddenly thought: Is it possible to use them as building materials again? So, he and his team finally worked out that 70% coffee grounds and 30% steel slag were mixed together with an alkaline solution, and then pressed into columnar bricks, and the strength was tested to be enough for subgrade.

///make soap
Recently, Lily' s manual launched a new series, which uses coffee grounds recovered from coffee shops to make handmade soaps and kitchen and bathroom cleaning soaps. If you don't know Lily, she is a craftsman of natural skin care and cleaning products in Beijing F2N market. All my skin care products are handmade by Lily. (Yes, this is a tough and broad without any interest! )

In addition to the large-scale treatment of coffee grounds through the above creative products, it can be easily completed even at home without waste:
Composting: put it into Pokasi compost bucket together with other kitchen waste, and use it as fertilizer after it is fully matured;
Smell absorption: put dry (must be dried or dried first) coffee grounds into small cotton bags or wrapped in newspapers, and put them in refrigerators, shoe cabinets and bathrooms for deodorization;
Exfoliation: Mix coffee grounds with coconut oil 1: 1 to make a simple and easy-to-use scrub (please don't use it frequently for sensitive and delicate skin).
There is not enough coffee grounds at home, so go to Starbucks to buy it!
