What is yoga and what does it have to do with tantra?
What does it have to do with tantra? Yoga is a transliteration of Sanskrit yoga, which originally meant to put a yoke on a cow to connect it with a sheep. Therefore, it is a combination of deep connection, which China translated as "correspondence" in the past. According to the explanation of "only knowing stories", the so-called "correspondence" generally has five meanings: one is to correspond to the environment, that is, the yogi can correspond to everything outside without violating the environment; Second, it corresponds to practice, that is, practitioners' practice methods such as precept, determination and wisdom should be combined with each other; Third, corresponding rationality, that is, people who practice yoga can correspond to the highest truth of Buddhism in yoga practice; Fourth, corresponding to the fruit, it is said that practicing yoga can get the supreme bodhi fruit; Fifth, the corresponding machine, that is, practicing yoga, can adapt randomly, sense everything and help save all beings. The word yoga was first seen in Rigveda, ancient India. In the Upanishads era, its significance is to observe the truth of Brahma and me according to the practice methods such as pranayama, so as to combine the yogi with the highest truth of the universe. Since then, yoga has become a practice method used by various religious philosophies in ancient India. While everyone is using it together, there is also a school specializing in yoga in India: Yoga School, which standardizes the specific methods of yoga and puts forward that yoga practice can be divided into eight branches, namely, abstinence, abstinence, sitting posture, emotion control, pranayama, meditation and samadhi. After the emergence of Buddhism, this practice method was reformed and developed, and then adopted. This is what Buddhism often says about various meditation methods. Buddhism believes that the meditation methods of Shemota and Pi Bo Nash are important practice methods to realize Buddhism. Through meditation, people can produce Buddhist wisdom, thus getting rid of troubles and achieving nirvana. Therefore, since the time of Sakyamuni, yoga has been a widely used practice method in Buddhism, so there have been many works on Zen in history, such as "Practicing Tao and Land" and "The Yoga Teacher's Theory of Land". There are also many classics named after Samadhi, such as Samadhi Sutra by Zhou Fan and Samadhi Sutra by Keeping Cold Words. These are all discussed in yoga practice. In addition, due to the slightly different ideological emphases and practice methods of various Buddhist sects, the specific explanations of yoga practice in Buddhism are not the same. For example, Tiantai Sect advocates "one thought and three views", Huayan Sect advocates "the view of dharma realm", Faxiang Sect advocates "the view of knowledge only", Pure Land Sect advocates "sixteen views", and various meditation methods advocated by Zen Buddhism can all be said to be the content of yoga practice. The only difference is the different understanding and emphasis on this practice. Among the various schools of Buddhism, yoga is undoubtedly the most closely related to tantric Buddhism. Because yoga practice is the most important practice method among all tantric practices, other practice methods advocated by Tan Jie and other tantric practices are not only an external practice ceremony, but also accomplished through yoga internalization. So all other practice methods are basically under the control of yoga practice. Tantric Buddhism is a Buddhist Sect formed by the integration of Hinduism and various Indian customs in the late stage of Indian Buddhism development. Its main characteristics are highly organized incantations, rituals and secular beliefs, and it advocates the integration of three secrets (body secret: binding hands, binding altar, mouth secret: reciting truth, meaning secret: yoga meditation), that is, becoming a Buddha. Among the three secrets, the idea of intensive yoga is the most important. In the course of historical development, esoteric religion has also formed various factions. According to the division of Tibetan Buddhism, there are four major factions, namely, the Ministry, the Ministry of Travel, the Ministry of Yoga and the Ministry of Supreme Yoga. The middle part is the stage before the systematization of tantric thought, which mainly focuses on a single ceremony, chanting scriptures, sealing altars, offering sacrifices and other things, paying attention to eliminating disasters and pursuing secular self-interest, and has not yet formed a complete theoretical system, so tantric thought in the middle part has little to do with yoga. With the Great Sun Sutra as the main sutra, the Ministry has begun to pay more attention to yoga rituals and meditation, but more attention to external rituals. Although yoga is adopted, it is not the mainstream. In the Department of Yoga, King Kong and Ding Jing are the main classics, and yoga is the main practice, which advocates transcending external things and gaining inner enlightenment through yoga. The Supreme Yoga Department, on the other hand, takes yoga practice as the center, and holds that there are 265,438+0 knots in the midvein of human beings, which can be broken by practicing wind and clearing points, thus gradually leading to infinite magical power and wisdom, that is, becoming a Buddha. The practice method here is mainly carried out through pure yoga visualization, thus achieving a completely unique state of Buddhism and everything. It can be seen that the later the development of esoteric religion, the more yoga practice becomes the practice of China, which shows the importance of yoga in esoteric religion. Yoga is not only important in the methods of practice, but also in the results of practice. In esoteric religion, the achievement of spiritual practice is called "knowing the land", which is generally considered to be the wonderful result of the three secrets of body, mouth and heart. There are many esoteric sayings about knowing the land, and there are also many different sayings. Generally speaking, there are eight kinds, which are small, easy, big, far-reaching, dominant, respectful, comfortable and arbitrary. Tantric believes that the role of yoga visualization is the most important achievement of all knowledge. Without yoga visualization, nothing can be achieved. Therefore, the tantric religion sometimes simply calls the three secrets "yoga achievements" and the three secrets themselves "yoga three secrets". Because yoga is extremely important in esoteric religion, the word yoga is also widely used in esoteric religion. For example, Tantric Buddhism names yoga as the pure king of the true religion of Jingangding Yoga, the chanting of Jingangding Yoga, the sutra of yoga, the ritual of protecting the body of yoga, the chanting of yoga lotus, Wang Rulai's practice of Jingangding Yoga, and the sutra of yoga beads. The seat of tantric practitioners can be called "yoga seat"; Statues observed in practice can be called "yoga statues"; A yogi's teacher can be called a yogi. Even the whole esoteric religion itself can be called "Yoga School" and "Yoga Teaching".
