How does a PDF certificate work?
At present, PDF documents are widely used and have become one of the important document conversion formats. PDF documents published through the network have also come, but the security problems that follow have gradually surfaced. So how to prevent the contents of PDF documents from being peeped by unauthorized people in network transmission?

PDF certificate can solve this problem. PDF certificate can be used for identity signature or signature confirmation, and the signed document can prove the true identity of the signer of the PDF document to the user, and the true identity of the signer is verified and confirmed by an authoritative third party, thus protecting the PDF document from illegal tampering during transmission and making the signed PDF document safe and reliable for electronic document exchange and electronic contract signing between enterprises.

About digital signature

A "digital signature" is similar to a traditional handwritten signature, which means that someone has signed the document. Document authors can prove the contents of their documents by adding verification signatures. Digital signature also contains some personal information to verify the identity of the author. Different from handwritten signature, digital signature contains the author's unique encrypted information and is easy to verify, so it is difficult to forge.

Sign PDF documents with digital certificates

To sign a document, the author must obtain a digital certificate. Digital certificates, like ID cards, driver's licenses or passports, provide authentication for individuals or organizations that make electronic contact with the authors. Digital certificates usually contain the author's name and e-mail address, the name of the company that issued the digital certificate, the serial number and the validity period. Digital certificates include two types of keys: public key (encryption or verification signature) and private key (decryption or signature). When signing a PDF document, the author uses the private key to apply a digital signature. Authors can distribute "certificates" containing public keys and other identification information to those who need to verify their signatures, identities or encrypt information for the authors. Only the author's private key can unlock the information encrypted with the author's certificate, so make sure to store the digital certificate in a safe place. Authors need digital certificates to sign, verify and apply certificates to encrypt PDF documents. You can obtain a digital certificate from a third-party signature provider, such as GlobalSign, or you can create a self-signed digital certificate. In most commercial transactions, in order to prove the identity of the author, a digital certificate from a trusted third-party provider (called a "certification authority", such as GlobalSign) may be needed. Because the certification body is responsible for verifying the identity of the author for others, please choose an institution that most companies operating on the Internet trust. Authors can have multiple digital certificates for different purposes, for example, authors need to use different roles or authentication methods to sign documents. Digital certificates are usually password protected and stored in PKCS# 12 file format on computers, smart cards, hardware token devices, Windows certificate stores or signature servers (for roaming certificates).
