Stroke patients drink water and cough because of epiglottis dysfunction after stroke. When drinking water, epiglottis cannot completely cover the airway, so water flows into the airway.

You can consider the following methods to prevent cough.

1. The thinner it is, the easier it is to choke, so the thicker it is.

2. Feed a small amount at a time, slowly.

3. Indwelling gastric tube for nasal feeding.
