What kind of disaster can water hyacinth cause?
Water hyacinth can't be eaten!

Water hyacinth originated in Africa. When the Japanese saw its beautiful flowers, they took it back to China to watch it at home. China found it edible and brought it back to China for large-scale breeding to feed pigs, but it was not identified, which led to flooding.

In fact, water hyacinth is called "water quality tester", and it will only appear when the heavy metal content in a section of water exceeds the standard. Water hyacinth will absorb heavy metal elements in water and convert them into nutrients. The higher the heavy metal content, the better the growth of water hyacinth. However, heavy metals are more stable, and remain in plants after being absorbed. Plants rot in rivers after they die, and then return to water without any reduction.

Therefore, wild water hyacinth (another way of saying it in China) is a product of excessive heavy metals, and eating more is harmful to human body;

In addition, the water hyacinth grows rapidly and it is too late to salvage. Although the river will block the dam mouth and power station and damage the machinery, Shuikou Power Station, one of the main hydropower stations in Fujian Province, has been almost completely paralyzed by water hyacinth pollution. It takes time and effort to send a lot of manual salvage every year, but it is still too late for him to grow up.

However, there is no such phenomenon in the origin of water hyacinth. Instead, they use water hyacinth to absorb heavy metals in water, and then remove and dispose of them, which can be used as a natural water purification agent. Because there is a local insect called water hyacinth weevil, which is a monogamous COLEOPTERA insect. In other words, she eats nothing but water hyacinth, which effectively inhibits the growth of water hyacinth and achieves ecological balance;

At present, the water hyacinth weevil has been introduced into China, and it is still being further tested. The biological control instructor of our hospital thought that it could be stocked in a large area, but the local government refused because it was afraid that the water hyacinth would mutate after eating, which would cause trouble.

Up to now, there are no effective control measures in China, so we can only watch it overflow, and manual salvage is only a stopgap measure.
