The First People's Hospital of Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou was established in August, 1935. After more than half a century of training, the hospital has continued to grow and develop. At present, it is a three-level first-class general hospital of the Ministry of Health, a teaching hospital of higher medical colleges in Zhejiang Province, and an affiliated hospital of Medical College of Hangzhou Normal University. It is praised as one of the "Four Little Dragons" in county hospitals by peers in the province.

The hospital is located on the banks of Qiantang River with pleasant scenery, with an area of 46,000 square meters and 726 open beds. The hospital currently has 1079 employees, including 65 senior employees, 309 intermediate employees, 28 employees with doctoral degrees and master degrees. In 2004, the total number of outpatient and emergency departments was 78 1633, and 273.65 million people were discharged. It has a large number of advanced medical equipment such as digital subtraction angiography (DSA), spiral CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital gastrointestinal decompression machine, whole-body CT, oral panoramic X-ray machine, automatic biochemical analyzer, HDI color ultrasound and so on.

The hospital has 28 specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, gynecology and pediatrics, among which cardiology, emergency department, nephrology, psychiatry, gynecology, obstetrics and respiratory department are the key specialties in Xiaoshan District, and the "surgical treatment of hypertensive encephalopathy" carried out by neurosurgery is the key special disease project in Hangzhou. In vascular surgery, Professor Wang Zhonggao, the chief expert of vascular surgery in China, is the consultant, and the projects such as venous cross-bypass for iliac vein compression syndrome and stent artificial blood vessel implantation for thoracic aortic dissection aneurysm are at the leading level in this region.
