Riding 3000 kilometers a year, on the way to and from work.
Coordinates Hangzhou, a year and a half ago, my work was transferred to the urban area, and the linear distance from home was 15 km. There is no direct subway, more than an hour's drive ("blocking the city" is not an empty name). It suddenly occurred to me whether I could ride it, let alone pass by the West Lake scenic spot, so I wanted to try it several times first. I didn't expect it to stop at first, but I still feel empty when it rains and I don't have to ride on weekends. In my opinion, more than a year's riding experience has already exceeded the basic needs of commuting. I think it has brought me at least three benefits: health, English and self-confidence.

First of all, of course, the body. The amount of exercise on the way to work has exceeded that of going to the gym before, and it was done unconsciously. It's really saving money and earning a fitness card. It's nice to think about it. The direct result is that even if you eat gutter oil all day and eat junk food occasionally, your weight is actually quite good. Sometimes it is too light to climb more than ten floors when you can't catch up with the elevator in a meeting, and the friends behind you are crying. Colleagues usually look surprised when they hear that I ride my bike so far to work, and then encourage me with sympathetic eyes, but I think this commuting method is too cost-effective for me even if I only consider the fitness effect, so that if I want to change my job in the future, I am worried that the distance is too close. ...

I happened to think of English. I'm on the road for an hour, so I can't look at my mobile phone, I can only listen to things. At first, I will listen to some jokes and news, and gradually feel bored. I accidentally remembered that I could actually learn English at this time, so I searched some domestic English FM recordings to listen to, and later I began to listen to some original English programs on itune. From a little knowledge at the beginning, I can understand more than 80% later. Watching Hollywood blockbusters can be separated from subtitles most of the time, and it feels like opening a new world. Because of this interest-based training, I took an IELTS test at the end of last year, with a total listening score of 6.5. . You know, I haven't made any special preparations except for these hours on my way to and from work.

In fact, in my opinion, the biggest change brought by insisting on cycling is the subtle enhancement of self-confidence. It turns out that a thing that feels very difficult, as long as you deliberately insist on doing a little bit every day, can actually accumulate from quantitative change to qualitative change. Think about fitness, if you don't force yourself to "passively" finish it on the way to work every day, but rely on the occasional thought of going to the gym, it is actually difficult to achieve results on weekdays with a lot of overtime hours. Another example is English. Some programs that you listen to because you are bored on the road can finally make solid progress. By extension, you have memorized 100 words and made 10 English sentences every day. . )

You see, cycling is a very small and helpless thing. Changing your attitude and paying a little attention can actually turn it into a bright color in boring daily life. The beauty of life still needs to be discovered:)
