After graduating from Secondary Five, I went to Canada to study communication and minor in economics. His sister is Gu Weili, who introduced him to movies when he was a teenager. After Gao Zhisen went to Canada to shoot "Chasing People Again", Gu Dezhao dropped out of school for a year and followed them. After finishing his studies, he returned to Hong Kong and was promoted by Gao Zhisen to write Beyond Diary, where he served as an assistant director and officially entered the profession.
