Hippos are called "dung-making machines". They can not only eat, but also pull. They consume about 200 kilograms of food every day, and then they can pull out more than 65438 kilograms of feces. A hippopotamus can bring 60,000 kilograms of feces to the Mara River every year.
Hippos can pull so well because their intestines are short, they digest quickly, and they have to mark their territory with feces. Therefore, when hippos shit, they will keep swinging their tails and throw the feces further. Think about it. Hundreds of "dung-making machines" that can pull 160 kilograms of excrement every day are put together, and the puddles they soak in soon become cesspits.
During the rainy season in Africa, hippos can just take a shit in the river. A large amount of river water will dilute feces and provide nutrients for other creatures in the river.
habitat
Generally, they live in areas with lush water plants and reeds near rivers, lakes and swamps, and some can live at an altitude of 2400 meters. Hippopotamus is a semi-aquatic mammal, which usually lives in shallow lakes, rivers and swamps. The water must be deep enough for the hippo to immerse its whole body in the water. Generally, it is best to use water about 2 meters deep.
During the day, hippos prefer to sleep in shallow water, or occasionally sleep on dense mud beaches. Mating and childbirth occur in these waters. When there is no shallow water, hippos are located in deep water and can only leave their nostrils on the water to breathe.
Hippos come out of the water at dusk, go ashore for food, and then walk along the familiar path, usually less than 1.6 km, along the seashore to the dense grassland.
