Will there be a football match at the Universiade?
There is no football in the Universiade.

After the last Universiade in Naples, football was no longer the official event of the Universiade. FISU has also added the University Football World Cup, which is also a reform measure for FISU to "reduce the burden and slim down" for the Universiade.

In fact, football has not entered the Universiade for a long time. 1985 Kobe Universiade, football became an official event. Basketball and volleyball, the other two big balls in the "three big balls", became the official events of the Universiade together with track and field, swimming, water polo, fencing and tennis at the first Universiade on 1959.

During the development of the Universiade for more than 60 years, the events have changed several times. Nowadays, the sports of the Universiade not only conform to the competition characteristics of college athletes, but also reflect the sports culture of the host country.

Introduction of Universiade events:

During the period of 1957, the International University Sports Federation decided that the sports of the University Games should be set as nine major events: track and field, gymnastics, swimming, diving, fencing, water polo, tennis, volleyball and basketball. At present, FISU has been increased to 15 required events, namely: track and field, diving, archery, basketball, volleyball, swimming, water polo, badminton, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, fencing, judo, table tennis, taekwondo and tennis.

Compared with the Olympic Games, Asian Games and other large-scale comprehensive games, the Universiade has fewer individual events and more collective events. Previously, the host city of the Universiade could also add a number of "optional projects", which also led to more and more Universiade projects.

The total number of events of Shenzhen Universiade 20 1 1, Kazan Universiade 20 13 and Gwangju Universiade 20 15 reached 24, 27, 2 1 respectively. You know, there are only 28 major events in the Olympic Games. Therefore, in order to control the preparation scale, FISU stipulates that there should be no more than three optional events in each competition.
