Air and Coast Defense Command

Thailand Air and Coastal Defence Command was established in 1992, which is responsible for the defense of the fleet command, naval base and the whole country. At present, its jurisdiction also extends to the Andaman Sea, the Gulf Economic Zone of Thailand and other important maritime and coastline areas.

The regimental air and sea defense command consists of a sea defense regiment (equipped with artillery and shore-based anti-ship missiles) and an air defense regiment (equipped with anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missiles). In the past, the personnel of the Air and Coastal Defence Command were transferred by the Marine Corps, but now they are directly recruited from the people. Thailand's main air defense force is stationed in Suotaoyi, equipped with HN-5A surface-to-air missiles, 37mm and 57mm anti-aircraft guns, 40mm1and L/70 anti-aircraft guns. The Coast Guard is stationed in Utapao, equipped with155mm and130mm coastal guns.

military strength

The Royal Thai Navy has 66,000 active servicemen, including 20,000 marines, 8,000 soldiers from the Air and Coast Defense Command and 1 150 naval air defense units. Of the 66,000 active troops, about 1.5 million soldiers were recruited. There are about 30 thousand reservists in the navy.

Development planning and projects

1In July 1992, Thailand signed a contract with Bazin Shipbuilding Company of Spain worth 228 million US dollars to build a 1 14000-ton coastal patrol helicopter carrier. The aircraft carrier was designed based on the Spanish Navy's PRINCIPE DE ASTURIAS helicopter carrier, but it was small in scale and built according to the standards of commercial ships. The hangar under its deck can store 10 fixed or rotary-wing aircraft, and other aircraft can be parked on the fixed deck. It can carry three LCVP landing craft and 600 soldiers. 1997 The aircraft carrier Chakri Na Lubbert officially entered service. The aircraft carrier carries: AV-8A Harrier Attack/Fighter, S-70B Seahawk and CH-47 Chinook Helicopter. From 65438 to 0995, Thailand purchased nine AV-8S fighter jets and seven single-seat and two-seat TAV-8S trainers from the Spanish Navy for 90 million dollars. 1995, Thailand invested another $65,438+38 million to purchase six ikorsky S-70 seahawk helicopters for coastal reconnaissance, line-of-sight beacon search, search and rescue and patrol. Delivery ended on 1997. Two Seahawk helicopters are equipped with Bendiks's AQS- 13 deep-water sonar system, which can be used for anti-submarine warfare mission.

The Thai Navy originally planned to spend $800 million to buy two or three attack submarines driven by diesel engines, but this plan will be delayed at least 1 year due to Thailand's fiscal deficit five years later 1996.

With the delivery of new jets, maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters, the aviation capability of Thailand's land-based navy has been greatly improved. At the end of 1996, the remaining 14 A-7E single-seat and 4 TA-7 two-seat pirate attack aircraft of the US Navy were delivered. In order to enhance the maritime patrol capability, the Thai Navy purchased six maritime Sikorsky S-76B and delivered them in the first quarter of 1996. 1993 Of the five P-3A Orion aircraft purchased, two were modified to P-3T (similar to P-3B) and the other was modified to UP-3T general-purpose aircraft. Both P-3T aircraft are equipped with AN/AWG- 19 HACLCS missile control system, and they also carry harpoon anti-ship missiles.
