The name of Baduanjin was first seen in Jian Yizhi by Hong Mai in the Southern Song Dynasty: "In the seventh year of Zhenghe, Li Sihuolang ... who tried to sit up in the middle of the night, pee and massage, and practice the so-called Baduanjin." It shows that Baduanjin has spread all over the world in the Northern Song Dynasty, and it can be divided into sitting posture and standing posture.

Ba Duan Jin from Lishi was first seen in the health preservation literature in the Southern Song Dynasty. Author of "Wonderful Articles of Dao Zhongshu": "Those who raise their hands to treat triple energizer are also; Sculpture of left liver and right lung; Things are independent, so they are safe for the spleen and stomach; Go back to look after it, so I care about it; The size faces the sky, so it passes through its five internal organs; Swallow and replenish qi, and pick your hands left and right; Put the eel's tail, so as to get rid of the heart disease; The left and right hands climb their feet, so cure their waist. " However, Baduanjin in this period has not yet been named, and its words have not yet been sung.

The exact reason and time for the emergence of Baduanjin are still inconclusive. However, from the guide map unearthed from Mawangdui No.3 Tomb in Changsha, Hunan Province, we can see that at least four maps are similar to Baduanjin Map, such as "regulating the spleen and stomach must be done alone", "strengthening the kidney and waist with both hands", "opening the bow to the left and right like shooting eagles" and "removing all diseases behind the seven processes".

The origin of Baduanjin can be traced back to ancient times. 4000 ~ 5000 years ago, the Central Plains of China was flooded, and the people suffered from the rain and dampness, and their bones and muscles were too timid to reach, and their blood was stagnant to work. A wise man invented "dance" to get rid of these diseases. This "dance" of getting rid of illness and strengthening the body later evolved into a guide. Guide, guide gas to make peace, pull-ups to make soft; Guidance is to make the qi in the body smooth and the bones rigid and flexible through their own special exercise methods; Can stimulate their own conditioning ability, eliminate illness, improve health, delay aging.
