Administrative Districts of Hong Kong Hong Kong can be roughly divided into four parts: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, New Territories East and New Territories West. More specifically, it can be divided into 18 districts (unlike mainland China, these districts are purely non-political districts).
Hong Kong Island: Central and Western District, Wan Chai District, Eastern District and Southern District.
Kowloon: Kowloon City, Yau Tsim Mong District, Kwun Tong District, Wong Tai Sin District and Sham Shui Po District.
New Territories East: North District, Tai Po District, Sha Tin District and Sai Kung District.
New Territories West: Yuen Long District, Tuen Mun District, Tsuen Wan District, Kwai Tsing District and Islands District.
Relatively speaking, several districts on Hong Kong Island are the richest, the New Territories the poorest and Kowloon the medium. The Central and Western District of Hong Kong Island is the place where the richest people in Hong Kong live, and it has been the "prosperous area" of Hong Kong for four consecutive years. According to a survey on demographic and socio-economic characteristics conducted by the Census and Statistics Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the median monthly household income in the central and western regions reached 23,000 yuan, the highest among 18 regions. Sham Shui Po and Yuen Long have become the lowest income areas, with the median household income of 1 1 and 700 yuan and13,000 yuan respectively.
