Calculation method of body mass index value: divide the weight (kg) by the square of the height (m), and the value obtained is the BIM value.
For example, a woman with a height of 160 cm( 1.6 m) and a weight of 90 kg (45 kg) has a BIM index of:
BIM value: 45 ÷ (1.6×1.6) =17.58.
Body mass index (BMI) is a common standard to measure obesity. The calculation method is weight (kg) divided by the square of height (m). For example, the weight is 70kg, the height 1.7m and the body mass index = 70 ÷ (1.7× 1.7) = 24.
The results show that when the body mass index is 30 or above, the risk of death from cancer, heart disease, respiratory diseases, kidney disease and diabetes will increase. But too low body mass index is not good, and it is also related to the increased risk of death from various diseases.
Extended data:
Adult body mass index value:
Too light: less than 18.5
Normal: 18.5-23.9
Overweight: 24-27 years old
Obesity: 28-32 years old
Very obese, over 32 years old.
Because of the error, the body mass index can only be used as one of many standards to evaluate the individual's weight and health status.
According to the summary analysis report of China population data in 1990s, the China Obesity Working Group put forward the obesity standard suitable for adults in China for the first time:
Body mass index greater than or equal to 24 is overweight, and greater than or equal to 28 is obese; Male waist circumference is greater than or equal to 85 cm, and female waist circumference is greater than or equal to 80 cm.
