Enamel ware refers to painted bronzes, porcelain and feeders made in hall of mental cultivation Yufang. Hall of mental cultivation is adjacent to the emperor's residence, which is convenient for the holy family to directly inspect the finished products. During the Kangxi period, European artists visited the palace to promote the establishment of enamel works and the research and development of new colors. Therefore, the palace royal products were painted with enamel color on the white porcelain fired in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, and made into exquisite and gorgeous royal porcelain. The workshop is close to the Palace Painting Academy, and Chinese and foreign painters are also ordered to add color to the paintings. Under the direct influence of western painters, painted porcelain paintings are very foreign, paying attention to imitating nature and creating texture, depth and perspective with light and shadow. This product is realistic in painting style, and the face is drawn by "halo dyeing method", which does not outline the outline, such as mirror shadow, and is lifelike. Because there is no need to draw huge works in the Beijing court workshop, the painting and production of each work can be completed by a single court painter, rather than several people painting a picture separately, so the utensils are convenient to express the painter's personal painting style. Moreover, enamel pigments have various colors and flexible modulation components, which are different from Jingdezhen glaze colors and not limited to multicolored or pastel colors, and the finished products are colorful. This product is novel in glaze, colorful and dazzling, and the secondary decoration as fine as carmine is also painted with five colors, which is quite different from the common pastels in Jingdezhen.
Precious enamel porcelain is the emperor's "palace secret play" and cannot be seen on earth. Because firing is not easy and too precious, and the emperor personally presided over the firing in the palace, it is only for the use of the royal family in the palace, and some of it will be given to the meritorious minister as a family heirloom. At present, most enamel porcelain is collected by the National Palace Museum in Taipei and the National Palace Museum in Beijing, and the quantity is very small.
