Since the 1980s, Hong Kong films have experienced ups and downs, from the peak annual output of 300 films to the current annual output of about 50 films, from the diversification of film types to only popular action films and comedies. The dilemma is obvious to all. However, it must be admitted that in the past 20 years, there have been many excellent works of outstanding directors in Hong Kong films, such as John Woo, Lin Lingdong, Du Qifeng and other directors who are good at action films, which have literary characteristics. Among them, in recent years, Du Qifeng is still active in the Hong Kong film industry and has made great achievements.

Du Qifeng, born in 1955, likes movies and TV since childhood. He joined tvbi in the early 1970s and later became a director or producer of TV series. That year, Du Qifeng participated in the Barbara Yung version of The Legend of the Condor Heroes. Starting from 1983, Du Qifeng switched from the television industry to the film industry, and directed such works as Cold Mountain with Clear Water, Eight Stars, A-Lang's Story, Tasteless Detective, True Hero, Dark War, Gunfire, Gangdom and Wen Que. , especially his works in the past ten years.

Because the characteristics of Du Qifeng's works are mainly reflected in the image of the Milky Way in his film period, this paper mainly introduces Du Qifeng with the image of the Milky Way.

Creation: From New Art City to Galaxy Image

Art Nouveau is a new film company that formed a tripartite confrontation with Jiahe and Shaw in the early 1980s. It is led by "seven people" such as Tsui Hark, Mai Jia, Shi Tian and Huang Baiming. Because it was a rising star, it was not as good as Jiahe and Shaw in terms of capital and influence at first, so the New Art City mainly made trendy movies (the series of "Happy Ghosts" and "The True Color of Heroes" were typical, as well as comedies that paid more attention to modern urban life at that time), and the cost was relatively low (Tsui Hark's high-cost "The New Swordsman of Shushan" was shot in Jiahe at that time), so it was recycled.

Du Qifeng's early works, such as Joy and Murder III, Good News of Eight Stars and A-lang's Story, were all completed in the New Art City, which also reflected the main creative tendency of the New Art City at that time. For example, in "Eight Stars Good News", Chow Yun Fat became a superstar again because he starred in "The True Color of Heroes" directed by John Woo, and the story of dragon and tiger continued his great sadness in "The True Color of Heroes". However, comedy films were still in the mainstream position of Hong Kong films at that time. How to integrate star Chow Yun Fat and comedy into eight-star good news is an effort direction. Fortunately, the eight-star good news Alang's story is just the opposite of the eight-star good news. In the sobs of Tayu Lo's elegy You Appear, the image is A Lang's sad story. Although Du Qifeng's film style was not uniform in this period to keep up with the film trend, we can also see his ability to control various themes.

Even after the dissolution of 1990 New Art City, Du Qifeng still followed the film trend and shot a series of commercial works to explore the development of art in the commercial trend. Because Jing Wong directed the series "God of Gambling", gambling films were once surging in Hong Kong films. Coupled with the success of Jing Wong's The Supreme, Du Qifeng filmed the follow-up work The Supreme 2 Will Dominate the World Forever (in fact, it should be the prequel of The Supreme), which vividly expressed the feelings of men between the roles played by Andy Lau and Wang Jie (at that time, Wang Jie made music with albums such as One Game, One Dream, etc., and comedy movies were still the only film type that could compete with action movies. During this period, Du Qifeng directed Death Judge, Jigong (all starring Stephen Chow, which further matured Stephen Chow's comedy style) and Barefoot Boy. The new martial arts films were carried forward in Tsui Hark's the legendary swordsman and Huang Feihong series, while Du Qifeng directed Hero Trio and Legend of Modern Heroes, and together with 1992, they became the representative works of futuristic martial arts films in Hong Kong ... This is Du Qifeng, whose works mainly follow the trend, but he also tried to inject new blood into it.

The mid-1990s was an important period for Du Qifeng, who also made a transition from his early commercial "homework" to his personal experimental works, and the establishment of 1996 Galaxy Image also became the symbol of the new stage of Du Qifeng films. In an interview, Du Qifeng once said, "In the past, directing was just a film job for me. This is a very important definition. After I didn't make a film for a whole year from 65438 to 0994, I realized that as a director, I should compare my film works with others. It doesn't matter whether the film is commercial or not. It is important that the film itself should contain your thoughts and opinions. After watching the movie, the audience will definitely evaluate which director's style or which director's creativity it is. I think my film style should be a genre of my own, so that my film can survive, and the vitality of the film may be longer than others. Otherwise, if I continue to follow the mainstream commercial film route, I may be completely numb and may not be able to do it. " (Zhang Jing: Hua Ying: made in Hong Kong) 1995 The Tasteless Detective has also become an important work in Du Qifeng's transformation. On the one hand, it is the mainstream film route (police and bandits, gunfight) he took before, and on the other hand, it incorporates many personal thoughts and styles, especially the black image style, which has become an important style of many works produced by Galaxy Image in the future.

Subsequently, Du Qifeng's "urgent need" in 1996 became the pioneering work of the Galaxy image. Although the Galaxy Image Company has not been formally established at this time, "Urgent Need" focuses on the important creators in the later Galaxy Image and is regarded as a pioneering work. Because, this film was co-produced by Du Qifeng and Wei Jiahui, and directed by Du Qifeng. In addition, Qiu Naihai is the screenwriter of the film, Tat-Chi Yau is the executive director and Liu Qingyun plays the leading role. Such a cooperative team was the basic team when Xinghe Film was established (later, screenwriters Stuart Jinyuan and Kin Yee Au joined). Du Qifeng is undoubtedly the leader and soul figure in the image of the Galaxy (in the film debut "Tracking" directed by Qiu Naihai, there are many places to pay tribute to Du Qifeng, both in image style and in the story itself). In the nearly 40 works since its establishment, most of them are directed or supervised by Du Qifeng, and their own style and characteristics are deeply integrated into the film. For example, The Dark Flower and Unexpected are directed by others, and only Du Qifeng is supervised.

In a series of galaxy images in Du Qifeng, there are obviously two types. One is commercial production, such as dark war, lonely men and few women, slimming men and women, walking left and right, Zhong Wuyan, etc., while the other is Du Qifeng's stylized experiments, such as dark flowers, gunshots and big men. But in general, commercial works are only a small part, and more are stylized productions.

This year, "Butterfly Flying" was released simultaneously in Hong Kong and the Mainland, and then it was reported that he was about to adapt his new film "raiders of the lost ark". Recently, two of his films, Detective and Wen Que, were released at a film festival at the same time, and the Russian version based on major events was also released at the end of April, Wen Que was also released in the mainland, and the new film "Tearing the Ticket" was also released.

I, Du Like, am also very strange. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed after watching Wen Que a few days ago. It is said that the play was deleted for another 6 minutes.
