-thoughts on reading "red gourd"
Cao Wenxuan: Member of the National Committee of Chinese Writers Association, Vice Chairman of Beijing Writers Association, Professor Peking University, doctoral supervisor. The main literary works are Melancholy Pastoral, Red Gourd, Follow Eternity, Sweet Orange Tree and so on.
Every time I read Cao Wenxuan's beautiful essay, I will be completely absorbed in another world, and forget all about eating and sleeping. The joys and sorrows of the characters in the story often worry me.
I remember it very clearly. On May 2, 2008, I read Cao Wenxuan's Red Gourd. It is a work with feelings between the lines, which makes people cry after reading it.
The story goes like this: Wan is a skinny boy, and his father is a big liar and is in prison. Niu Niu is a girl. There is a river in front of her house, and the other side of the river lives in this bay. Bei often swims in the river with a red gourd, and Niu Niu likes to watch it swim. Later, Niu Niu couldn't stand the temptation of water any more and asked Wan to teach her to swim. Wan readily agreed. Once, under the protection of the Gulf, Niu Niu went downstream to the deep water area and grabbed the red gourd in Niu Niu's hand. Niu Niu struggled for help, but the bay next to her was indifferent. Finally, when she saw that Niu Niu was exhausted, the bay saved her to the shore. Niu Niu ran to her mother's arms and said Wan was a big liar, so she followed her mother to her grandmother's house. Wan is very sad. At grandma's house, Niu Niu listened to her grandfather talk about something similar to herself, but grandpa learned to swim and didn't hate the people who left her at the beginning. Niu Niu heard this and ran back to the river, but it is said that Wan left here and gave Niu Niu the red gourd.
I suddenly felt my cheeks burning, my eyes blurred and tears welled up in my eyes. ...
In life, many people like Wan are satirized, ignored and bullied by others because of their parents' fault. They have no friends, no happiness, no honor, no sadness, no loneliness and no despair. Maybe they cover up perfectly, but as long as we pay attention to them, we will find that they are actually very fragile, and at the same time let us feel that they have an extraordinary perseverance. Everyone is equal. We should respect, protect and understand those injured hearts.
This story also tells us one thing: people should learn to let go and not always rely on the help of others to lose the ability to live independently.
"Red Gourd" has benefited me a lot and I will never forget it.
That time, I cried.
