In the face of condemnation from people all over the world, the US government asked Congress to pass the Voter Registration Law in August of the same year.
In fact, the above two laws have not completely abolished the apartheid and discrimination system in the south, but in fact, racial discrimination in the north may be aggravated. In March, 1968, Pastor Jin organized a poor people's March (called the Movement of Being Poor), passing through Memphis, Tennessee, and was shot dead by racist members. Subsequently, the national self-determination movement, the black power movement, the Black Panther Party movement and the large-scale urban riots of the black people were actually the continuation of the civil rights movement that opposed the de facto apartheid system in different forms, especially the employment discrimination system.
