Rhythmic gymnastics originated in Europe. At the end of 19, various body movements appeared with the music. At the beginning of the 20th century, rhythmic gymnastics, created by Emile Jaques-Dalcroze, a teacher of the Geneva Conservatory of Music, combined physical exercises with music, and developed from bare hands to light musical instruments. 1962 was recognized as a competition event by the International Gymnastics Federation. The first World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship was held from 1963, and then every two years. 1967 specially formulated the international scoring rules. 1984 is listed as an Olympic event.

Rhythmic gymnastics used to be a women's event, but now there are men performing rhythmic gymnastics in Japan, the United States, Canada, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico and other countries, which are called men's rhythmic gymnastics. The first World Men's Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship was held from 27 to 29 October 2003/KLOC-0. Different from women's events, women's rhythmic gymnastics mainly includes rope gymnastics, ring gymnastics, ball gymnastics, stick gymnastics and belt gymnastics; Men generally don't have ball exercises and stick exercises, but add sticks. However, Ruben Olivera of Spain masculinized all women's events at the same time; Its physical flexibility is not inferior to that of any female rhythmic gymnast.

Rhythmic gymnastics is a new sports event, which was widely developed in various physical education colleges with its unique charm in the 1980s. With the development of society, this incident has had a great impact in China.
