The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) held a joint meeting on infant feeding in Geneva, focusing on the problems of infant growth retardation and high anemia rate caused by improper feeding methods and malnutrition all over the world. A large number of research results have proved that malnutrition in children before the age of two will cause stunting, which will lead to adults' height being several centimeters lower than their potential height, and their physical and intellectual performance will be inhibited. If women are malnourished in childhood, their reproductive function will be affected, and the babies born may have low birth weight and are more prone to various complications during childbirth. Unbalanced nutrition will lead to childhood obesity, which is becoming an increasingly serious public problem in many cities.

Since the reform and opening up 30 years ago, the incidence of severe malnutrition among children in China has been greatly reduced. However, due to improper feeding methods, especially during the period of 6-24 months of supplementary food addition, infant nutritional imbalance, mild malnutrition and nutritional deficiency are still common. Mr. Xie Ruobo, a medical official of the World Health Organization (WHO) representative office in China, said that comparing the data of children's growth and development in China with those in other countries with similar social and economic development levels, children's physique in China is relatively small, and this growth retardation is more prominent in rural areas. The latest survey report shows that the average intake of calcium in children in China is only 1/3 of the recommended intake, and the supply of vitamin A is less than 60% of the recommended daily intake. The situation in rural areas is worse than that in cities. The prevalence rate of anemia among infants under two years old in China's top ten cities is 24.2%, while that in western rural areas is 38%, and the growth retardation rate is 20%.

Infants' disabilities and diseases caused by nutritional problems not only cause economic losses to the country and family due to long-term treatment, but also reduce their living income due to the decline or even loss of their working ability. According to the results of a ten-year follow-up survey of nutritional status in China (1990-2000), the economic loss caused by iron deficiency anemia in China is equivalent to 3.6% of the gross national product. If children's iron deficiency anemia is not improved within 10 years, the cumulative loss will reach more than 2178.7 billion yuan.

Infant nutrition problems have serious consequences for individuals, families and countries. Childhood laid the foundation of life and needed the best education and nutrition. It is urgent to take measures to solve this problem for the health and future of the next generation and for the future of the country and the nation!

In 2002, the World Health Assembly adopted the Global Strategy for Infantry and Infant Feeding, aiming at arousing governments, societies and families all over the world to attach great importance to ensuring infant nutrition and promoting correct feeding strategies. China also promulgated the infant feeding strategy in July 2007.

People's Republic of China (PRC), the Ministry of Health and the State Standardization Administration Committee jointly formulated, promulgated and implemented the General Standard for Supplementary Foods and Nutritional Fortifiers (GB/T22570-2008), which came into effect on March 1 2009.

The infant feeding and nutrition improvement project led by the Department of Maternal and Child Health and Community Health of the Ministry of Health, implemented by the Child Health Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medical Association and the WHO Children's Health Cooperation Center, and supported by Tiantianai (Qingdao) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. was officially launched in March 20 10, and health education, publicity and training and Tiantianai nutrition package intervention were carried out in two provinces across the country to effectively intervene the nutritional status of infants aged 6-36 months.
